deadly echoes book review

I received a copy of Deadly Echoes by Nancy Mehl in my mail on Saturday.  I have already read it!!  Yeap it was that good.  I knew I was going to enjoy this book as I have read the first in the series as well as another series by Nancy Mehl, the author.

In this installment of the Finding Sanctuary series we meet Sarah.  Sarah witnessed her parents murder when she was six years old along with her older sister.  For years she was floating through the system of foster care.  She was never adopted and believed it due to her plain looks, freckles and red hair(kind of reminds me of Anne Shirley).  Anyway, as soon as she turned 18 Sarah went to live with a friend in Sanctuary, MO.  This is an old Mennonite town that now has both modern and Mennonite in it.  They live together in Harmony and have a sweet peaceful town.

Sarah is surprised when her sister finally finds her after many years.  Hannah has a daughter as well.  It’s so nice to finally have her sister back and Sarah can once again settle into a new normal of having a small family again.

Chaos comes to Sarah’s life though a few short months later.  Hannah was never content that the people who killed their parents were never caught and wants to find the murderers.  She isn’t stopping.  Instead, she ends up dead.  It is now up to Sarah to care for her niece.  She’s told not to investigate, don’t ask questions, just accept and move on.  But something just isn’t right.  She sees things connecting both the murders and can’t let them rest.  Will she find the killers?  Or will Sarah and her niece get killed in the process?  Throw in a handsome deputy sheriff showing interest in not only the case but Sarah as well and things are bound to happen!

Oh my!  I loved this book!  I seriously received it in the mail Saturday afternoon and had it read before going to bed that night.  It read super quickly(suspense tends to do that) and kept me guessing!   Our author does such a great job of making you believe you are there with the characters and keeping you spellbound.  I wanted to know what happened to Sarah so I had to keep reading.  Would anyone else get hurt before the killer was caught?  Why was the investigator on the case killed?  Was it related to the case or just a simple killing?  Oh my!  So many twists and turns.  Add in a letter arriving from Hannah the day AFTER she dies containing information and life just keeps getting better!  Oh and did we mention that Hannah never wanted anyone to know who the father of her daughter was?  Why was that?  Could he have been the killer?

This book is amazing.  If you have not read book one of the series don’t worry, it’s not essential.  The characters do show up again but nothing that leaves you with blanks.  Each book is a stand alone and wonderful at that.  I don’t want to give away too much, but let’s just say that someone is hiding their major mental health problems and you’re in for such a shock when you find out who.  And the father of Sarah’s niece is found out too!!  Oh and I’ll never look at white orchids the same again.  A flower of death they now are.  So sad for the lives lost and all the ones that we never did connect along the way.  Makes you wonder.  And look over your shoulder a lot if you happen to finish it in the dark of night.  I made the mistake of reading her first book in the series when I was home alone at night!  She’s that good folks!  I thought someone was out to get me too!

Definitely go pick up a copy of this book and enjoy a lovely read!  Deadly Echoes should be added to everyone’s must read list this spring.  It’ll get your blood pumping and put your investigative skills to work.  Calling all you amateur detectives out there!

So awesome! And it’s fiction. I love how she incorporates the Mennonite and modern together. Has to be my favorite part.
