About the book:
Fatal Trauma (Abingdon Press, May 2015)

A gunman who has nothing to lose faces a doctor who could lose it all to prove his innocence.

When Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson are held at the mercy of a dangerous gunman, the lives of every emergency room patient are at stake. At the end of the evening three men are dead. One of them is a police officer who couldn’t be saved despite Mark’s best efforts. The other two are members of the feared Zeta drug cartel.

Though the standoff is over, the killing is not, because when the drug cartel loses its members, revenge is not far behind. Facing an adversary whose desires are dark and efforts are ruthless, Mark finds himself under suspicion as a killer, yet still a potential victim. When he turns to his high school sweetheart, attorney Gwen Woodruff, for help, Kelly helplessly looks on, as she hides her own feelings for the good doctor.

At the height of the conflict, three questions remain: Who is the shooter? Who will the next victim be? And can Mark prove his innocence before the gun turns on him?

My thoughts:

I normally love medical books.  This book was no exception.  It doesn’t have a lot to do with the actual medical side except for the hospital setting and that most of the people involved are in the medical field, but that’s okay!  It’s an excellent book that is filled with suspense.  You’re not going to know who the bad guys are anymore than the characters in the book do!

I also want to mention that I enjoyed the scenes centered around child abuse.  Child abuse is such a huge thing in our society but something that most people don’t want to think about or really don’t know about.  Either parent can be the abuser and this book nails that point.

There are so many levels of suspense in this book.  You have the not knowing who the shooter is or where the shooter will be.  You don’t know who the next victim is going to be.  And then you have to mix in the drug cartel.  Are they working with the hospital?   Do they have people within the hospital?  How are they choosing their victims and why?  Plus you have to add in the romantic portion.  Who will Dr Mark end up with?  Will he be arrested for killing a woman he dated?  Will he end up with Kelly or his old flame(turned lawyer) Gwen?  Or will any of them survive?

Fast paced and a quick read that I highly recommend.  You’re going to want to check this one out!
