CursiveLogic {TOS Crew Review}

CursiveLogic Collage

Do you know how to write and read in cursive?  Would you like your children to learn?  Have you tried to teach them but they just can’t seem to grasp the concept?  Then it’s time for you to check out CursiveLogic.  As part of the TOS Crew we received the CursiveLogic Workbook to work with and review.

When we were asked if we’d like to review this product I was using my second curriculum to teach my older two cursive.  It just hadn’t fully clicked.  Not sure if I started them too early or we didn’t review enough or what, but we were all getting frustrated. So I knew that we were going to want to give CursiveLogic a try!

The workbook is priced at $29.  No need for a teacher’s book to go with the student book as it’s all included together.  You will of course need one book per student as this is geared to be used by the student.

The workbook is geared for ages 7 through adult so can be used for teaching cursive the first time or remedial work.  I was using this with my 10-year-old who has done cursive work before but just didn’t quite “get it”.  She loved the bright colors used in this book.  I loved that the teacher instruction is right there and that I don’t need to do any prep work.  Definitely a curriculum you don’t have to prepare for but can just grab and go.

Preparing for CursiveLogic

The workbook we received is a 96 page spiral-bound book.  In addition to those 96 pages it also has three dry erase pages which make practicing what they’re learning even more fun!  It’s brightly colored and includes both the teachers instructions and practice pages.   It uses four lessons total that the student will work through so they can understand the five step process being used.  At the end, your student will be able to fluently write all letters of the lower case alphabet with ease.

All of the lowercase letters are taught in cursive in this book but it’s not done through a first then b, etc.  Instead your child gets to thrill their sense of sight as they learn cursive.  All the letters are grouped into brightly colored groups that focus on the strokes needed to write the letters instead of where the letter is alphabetically.  There are four shape groups.  Each of these shape groups has a color, a catchphrase for the student to memorize, and a beginning stroke.  As we mentioned above there are only four lessons in this book.  Each lesson focuses on a different group of letters.

We also received these Practice Pages which offer other chances for your child to practice their newly learned cursive.  You’re going to need to purchase the CursiveLogic Workbook in order to understand what is being taught and how to use the practice pages but they are a great asset after you do!  Love that the Practice Pages are the Psalms, The Declaration of Independence, and the Gettysburg Address.  A little memory work going on with their copywork!

For how to use this little program, there aren’t any designations like do this page this day and this the other, but rather you just choose how much to do.  For us, we’d do a lesson a week.  So we finished the program in four weeks.  You can easily spread this out to last longer or do more per day to get it done faster depending on how your child is doing and the pace you set.
