The ACT Mom

When I started homeschooling I thought that teaching a child to read was hard and wondered if I was screwing it all up.  But now, now that I have a high school student it’s the ACT and college that make me worry and wonder.  Do you need ACT Help?  It’s been many years since I took my own ACT and I really haven’t thought much about it until my children are now going to need to take it.  Enter ACT Mom Online Class.  Through the Homeschool Review Crew, we received a subscription to ACT Mom.

About the Course

ACT Mom is an online class consisting of 13 hours of self-paced courses.  In addition to this is a physical component of a binder that is mailed to you.  The complete class consists of streaming videos, a hands-on binder, and practice questions to ready you for the real thing.

ACT help

The creator of ACT Mom Online Class is a homeschooling mom whose husband is a teacher.  Living on one salary can be rough especially when you’re thinking of sending kids off to college.  With that in mind, this mom studied hard and figured out ways to teach her children how to take the ACT.  This ACT help went on to help her children score exceptionally well on the ACT and helped them get scholarships either full-ride or over half paid for their college.

Once she had success with her own children she branched out to teach and help others.  With the pandemic and canceling in-person classes, she went on to figure out how to make this an online business, and ACT Mom Online Class was born!  And here we are using this ACT help.

Within the Course

The full course contains four smaller courses.  Those four sections are Math, Reading, Science, and English.  These of course correlate to the ACT and are each special to help you prepare for those sections.

Each course begins with the instructor sitting and having a chat with her students.  She tells why it’s important to study for the ACT and do well on it.  I like that she stresses that it is the responsibility of the student to work hard and do their best, but also that they need to have a why.  Why do they want to do their best?  What do they want the outcome to be?

I remember in high school going early to a class that was basically an ACT help class.  The teacher was one who taught English to us in high school and she gave us practice tests galore and told us things that would help us.  I think that it really helped me as I got a full-ride scholarship due to how well I scored on the ACT.  I really want that for my children so they aren’t having to go into debt to go to college and get a degree.

The materials that are shipped to you are also available for you to download through the site.  And once you are done with the course you get links to around 8 practice ACT tests to take to help you get a feel for how the tests are going to be.  I know that taking practice tests isn’t the same due to the atmosphere change, but all the practice does help!

Our Thoughts

Since my daughter is now 16 and starting her junior year in high school the ACT is something we have to give serious thought to.  Next summer we will be applying to colleges and scholarships.  It seems unreal to me how fast this has come up.  I’m not prepared.  Though I did really well on the ACT I don’t remember all that I learned about taking the test and how to do it well.  So this was a great relief to me.

Knowing that my daughter can get ACT help without me having to hire a tutor and set up appointment times is so nice.  Especially with everything we have going on currently.

The course is self-paced with a year to finish it.  I encouraged my daughter to do one section at a time, to finish it, and then move onto the next section.  We haven’t officially started our school year yet but this is something that can easily be done in short time plans through the summer as well.

Each session is set up with multiple points under it so that you can easily find where you left off and restart.  The videos and quizzes are separate and labeled as to what they are.

At the end of each course, you will find additional materials to help your child get the best prep for their ACT.

I know that my daughter struggles with English.  She’s really strong in Reading.  She wants to be a vet so math and Science have been points we’ve focused on.  For us, this means her focus needs to be on English more than the others in her ACT prep.  It also means that we’re going to be doing extra with English this year so I asked her to work on it first.  I’m hoping we can go back and rewatch the videos closer to time for her to take her ACT.  We get access for a year so that is helpful if you’re going to want to go back and redo a piece.
