About the book: Return to Exile (Howard Books, January 2015)

How far would you go to save the ones you love?

Six years ago, impossible circumstances forced Dr. Lisbeth Hastings to leave behind the love of her life, not just in another country, but in another time. Her work as a top-notch epidemiologist and parenting her little girl helps alleviate the pain, but at night when her exhausted head hits the pillow, images of her beloved Cyprian haunt her sleep.

Cyprian Thascius returns from political exile a broken man. He’s lost his faith, the love of his life, and his purpose. He attempts to move on, to face the danger that is looming over Carthage, but when Cyprian’s true love suddenly reappears, his heart becomes as imperiled as the fledgling church he seeks to save.

Have the years that kept Lisbeth and Cyprian apart created too wide a chasm to bridge? In the midst of a new epidemic and rising oppression, will their love be the most costly fatality? Filled with gripping action and raw emotion, this spell-binding adventure of star-crossed lovers captivates with every turn of the page in this electric continuation of The Carthage Chronicles.

My thoughts:
Okay guys.  I’ve never been big on this time period.  I mean I love all things history but this period is not one of my favorites.  I really hadn’t read any of books of this particular period.
I also hadn’t read anything by this author yet. I loved it! Well written. Great historical accuracy. And throw in some medical stuff and I’m hooked. As an RN I’m always looking to see whether they get close to the correct medical lingo and use. Lynne Gentry did a great job! I haven’t done a lot of this period of history and really don’t know all about it. I loved it! Great history to learn for me. I find myself wanting to go find the first book and can’t wait for the third to come out!

The characters were well written and brought you into their lives. The struggles they face are real to you as the reader as you can feel what they are feeling.

The little girl is precocious and so sweet. She definitely has quite the personality and reminded myself of my daughters.

Stop reading now if you don’t want any particulars.

I felt for Lisbeth. Here she went back in time and found her mother. She also found the love of her life and was married. Just before finding out of her pregnancy she returns to her own time. There she gives birth and raises a child. Then when that little one is almost school age she learns things about history that she wants to change.

So now Lisbeth and her little girl go back through time again to see her husband and try to save his life. Only, he’s remarried to her best friend. And things just keep getting more complicated from there!

Will Lisbeth be able to save her husband, herself, and her daughter? Or will they all die from the sickness killing those around them? Will they make it back to the present day?

Definitely go read the book!!  Return to Exile will not leave you wanting!  Well it may leave you wanting to read the other books in the series though.

I was provided with a copy of this book from Litfuse for the purposes of a review however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
