My Thoughts on Duplicity at the Lowell House

Duplicity at the Lowell House brings us mystery and suspense from one of my favorite romance authors.  We still get to keep the historical fiction and the snippets of actual history throughout the book that I’ve come to know and love.

I have to say that this is a great new genre for this author and I’m here for it.  I really enjoyed this book.  There are lots of books that are connected by this author as she does tend to write series and then another series that branches off with a character from the first.  But really you can just dive in with this book and read it as a stand-alone novel and be okay.  That’s not to say you won’t learn a whole lot by reading the books associated with it first, but you won’t be too confused just reading this one.

Morgan and Charity are favorite characters of mine and you had to know from the start that Charity couldn’t just leave this mystery lie (pun intended) inside her hotel. She has to solve the case!

The mystery took a few twists and turns and I loved that though I had figured it out the end still had some surprises.  This was a fast read and I read it in one sitting after my kids had gone to bed.  I won’t mention what time I actually got to bed that night.

You should definitely read this book and then come back and we can chat about it.  I love talking about good books with others and can’t wait to hear what you thought of this murder mystery!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

More from Caryl

Something new for this author! I call it a historical, romantic mystery! If you’ve read QUINCY & PRISCILLA At The Lowell House, then you know a favorite couple–Morgan and Charity Lowell (book four, LEAVING TEXAS) owns the hotel.

In the twelve years since they opened the Dallas hotel, there had never been a murder until—of all people—a Mister John Smith is found dead in room three-thirteen, and his clandestine demise needs to be solved posthaste.

The chief deputy sheriff in town, Tatum McCarthy, served as sergeant alongside Captain Lowell under General Henry Buckmeyer during the war, and the men remain good friends. So guess who comes to Dallas as a character witness . . . Henry! Along with his beautiful wife May Meriwether (book three HOPE REBORN) Buckmeyer!

That’s right!

The patriarch of my Texas Romance Family Saga series!

What fun to discover the wonderful connection of these Texas heroes! I’ve never enjoyed anything more in my writing career than linking these two series! Cross Timbers and Texas Romances make DUPLICITY At The Lowell House a rip-roaring good time as Charity pulls out all the stops entertaining her favorite author—other than Morgan, that is!

This first mystery will be followed by others that Morgan and Charity will work on together. I’ll promise you now, there’s no telling who might pop up when there’s a murder to be unraveled! I pray you will all enjoy the fun and seeing these characters, natural friends in early Texas, come together for new stories!
