My Thoughts on The Irish Matchmaker
I love a good book! And a good Irish book is even better as I love learning anything more about the history of the people of Ireland that I can. This is a fun historical fiction novel that is going to draw you in! The characters definitely pulled at my heartstrings and made me want to not stop reading for fear they might slip away from me.
Sara nearly broke my heart. She’s such a sweet young girl. Her father is a farmer who hasn’t thought much about remarriage after his wife died. And Sara is his helper. But when the kids at school make fun of her things start to change. She wants him to find a wife!
The daughter of the matchmaker, Catriona, witnesses poor Sara being abused by her classmates and comes to her rescue. Through this, she meets Sara’s father, Donal, and agrees to help him find a wife. What no one counted on was the fact that along the way Donal and Catriona might enjoy spending time together. Or that it might be hard for Catriona to find someone who suited Donal.
Meanwhile, Catriona’s father has given her her first official matchmaking assignment.
A wealthy up-and-coming young man who was disappointed by another matchmaker and that match. Can Catriona handle two assignments? And moreover, can she handle them knowing that she herself is hoping to match herself with the wealthy client? She’s long dreamed of getting away from their small town and living a better life.
This novel was wonderful. I truly loved the characters. I can’t tell you who, but there is one that I wanted to smack some sense into. He definitely needed it. But then again Catriona had her moments that she needed it as well. There are hard moments, silly moments, and wonderful moments all throughout.
You definitely need to read this book! I’m hopeful to see more of this matchmaking team!!
