Psalm 84:11

Psalm 84:11

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

This verse was in my reading this morning.  I wasn’t quite sure how to read it and the way its speaks to me is very different than what I’m used to.  Anyone else have any thoughts on this verse?  Please read what I have to say about it and then let me know what you think of it or how it speaks to you.

First, my focus locked in on the word sun.  God is sun.  Think about that.  It makes sense, not in the God shines brightly sense but in the sense of God is the light of the world.  He really is the sun and the Son.  He brings light to a world of darkness(sin).  He saved us from the darkness.  The darkness flees when the (sun)Son comes up.

Next, God is a shield.  God shields us from things that might harm us.  He protects us from the devil and from the world.  He wraps himself around us so that instead of us being struck He takes the blows for us.  With God we can be living in the world but not of the world because we are within Him.  I for one am glad for His protection.  I am glad that I can call on Him whenever where-ever.  I am so glad that He is MY God.  I can think of many times when I’m doing something and realize I cannot do it alone and call on Him and know that He is there right beside me helping me to do what I could not do alone.

“the Lord will give grace and glory” This didn’t reach out and grab me like the rest of the verse did.  It did say to me that without the grace of God I would be nothing.  Without His saving grace all we are, are sinners doomed to hell.  The glory part threw me for a loop because I’ve always felt WE should be the ones who were giving the glory to God, not God giving us glory.  What do you think about this part of the verse?

The last part of the verse talks about how God will not withhold anything good from those that walk uprightly.  If we walk with God He will not keep the blessings from us.  As long as we are walking with Him He will give us what we need and give us things that are good.  Now, I didn’t say we’re going to get everything that we want or think we need.  I didn’t say that we would always be happy or have everything, but we will have GOOD.  God is good, we will always have God.  God will be with us which means that the devil will not.

God has given me a lot of good.  To me good corresponds with blessings.  I have been blessed beyond my expectations.  I have 8 beautiful children who love life and each other.  I have a husband whom I love and who loves me.  I could go on and on about the ways God has blessed me, but these are a few.  See photo below for a sneak at some of my blessings.

This little blessing was helping to take presents to her big sister at her birthday party yesterday.
