About the book: Tried and True

Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister—and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk—they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”—but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

My thoughts:  By now you have to know that I’m a huge Civil War buff(nut) and reenact it even.  So of course I was super excited to get to read this book.  Making me even more excited is the fact that I love the author Mary Connealy!  So as soon as this book arrived I tried to sequester myself away with it and not be bothered.  That of course did not work because I am the mommy of 9 children so I had to wait until they were asleep!  Once sleep set in I sat on the kitchen floor(the only light in the house that won’t bother them) and read away.  By the time I was done my legs and back ached but it was so worth it!  I loved this book!  I loved meeting Kylie and her sisters(brothers) and seeing how they think they’re good enough to fool all.  You would think the battle that begins once she is seen as a woman would be between her and the land agent, but it’s not!  There are others out to get Kylie and Aaron is out to protect her even if they have to get married!  He can protect her from land grabbers, he can protect her from her pa, but can he protect her from his past?   Exciting read and I of course love the twist at the end.  Enjoy but make sure to block out a good chunk of alone straight reading time!  You’re going to want it!
