Wally's Misadventure

Wally is a raccoon with a bent for some mischief. He means well. Really, he does. He wants to be good but he’s been cooped up all winter and really wants to go exploring a bit. Many times he’s been told to never go exploring alone but when no one wants to go with him he sets off on his own.

The book has a great lesson to impart though a bit of a better attitude while imparting it might be nice. I definitely hope for less fuss from my children in their attitude after wrongdoing. Do I always get it? No of course not but I like our books to show the best-case scenario of attitude if possible.

All in all, we liked the book. I have a large age range of children. This was read aloud to all of them. I would say my younger ones at age 3 and 6 listened well but did not grasp as much as my older children. There were some spots that seemed a bit scary to my 3-year-old son.

Reading by themselves I’d place this as a middle elementary level. It would be an easy read for them and they could comprehend and “get” the lesson from it. I would encourage parents to still talk about the book with their children though.

The book itself that I received was a PDF file. I don’t know if it was the file or if the book is this way too, but the illustrations are very dark-colored. Not just that they use darker deeper colors, but that they are very dark and harder to see things.

I would recommend this book but would recommend the parent read it first to see if it’s the age appropriate level for your child as you are truly the only one who can make that decision.
