Homestead Happenings

New YouTube Video

We’ve got a lot of fun new things going on here on our homestead!  The latest YouTube video that I posted is about our homestead happenings with some clues as to what is coming soon!

We have a fun new building coming that will open into our yard.  This is probably the thing I’m looking forward to the most and will serve our large family well making more space in our garage and house.

The other thing is the addition of four new animals!  Any guesses what they will be?  Will we regret getting them?  My husband has been resistant to them until I found a great deal on ones that we agreed would be a good fit.

I can’t wait to hear what you think about our new additions.  Homestead happenings are going to be a new category for us because I’m hoping that we can start adding a lot of things to our farm and really making the most of the land we have here.  That’s something we struggle with here on our farm.  Our land is mostly bluff land which means that it’s all uphill and downhill and rarely any flat land at all.

What are your favorite farm animals?

Do you use your animals for meat and food or are they more pets?

So far on our farm, we have horses, Quarter horses.  We raise them and have a stud for breeding purposes.  Next up are our beef cows.  We raise Herefords for our beef herd to provide us with food.  We don’t sell any.  I also have one dairy milk cow.  Daisy is a Jersey and is currently bred due in March.

We have lots of chickens, turkeys, guineas, and geese.  We eat all of them except the guineas and love the eggs they give us too.

And then, of course, we have our cats and dogs.  Farm cats outside, spoiled cat pets inside.  Farm dogs outside and spoiled pet dogs inside. Our inside dogs are German Shepherds while our outside dogs are a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix.
