About the Author of How to Kill a Giant
Carol Schlorff’s passion is to write exciting stories that encourage, inspire, and boost the reader’s faith, possibly because she has always felt like an outsider. She was born in North Africa to American parents and grew up in France. At age 15, her family’s abrupt move to Philadelphia resulted in a rough transition to American life.
After graduating from Penn State, Carol joined the Army in search of adventure. She was stationed in exotic—for her—locations like California, Arizona, and Texas.
Since then, Carol has lived in Cracow, Poland, where she teaches English and organizes language camps. She also writes a blog on faith-related topics.
Carol enjoys caring for her cat, Tabasco, watching a good murder mystery, and getting nervous while watching NFL games. Connect with her on her blog and Facebook.
My Thoughts on How to Kill a Giant
What a cute children’s book. I’d say probably middle school for the best target range. Though we read it out loud here at our house and it was fine for all ages to listen to. I found it enjoyable as well.
You’re going to meet Hugo, who has just moved to a new place. And he’s finding it hard to fit in. It’s a small town, and he’s the new kid. So he’s picked on and doesn’t fit in. He meets two other children, siblings, Julia and Stefan. They’re not happy with the school and life either. They form a bit of an alliance together and bond.
When they find an old Bible, they’re transported back to ancient times!
What an adventure.
At first, they’re thought to be spies.
Hugo has a weakness. We all do. He is a coward. He’s not brave or daring. And he must overcome that within the pages of this novel. Who better to help him than King David, who had the courage to face a giant! And they meet him before he’s a king of course, they get to witness him as that shepherd boy. What an adventure!
Can Hugo learn from David? Will he be able to slay his own giants in the bullies of his new school? And can this trio of friends maybe learn something about God through the story?
This was a fun book, and we enjoyed it. We would recommend it. I hope you get the chance to read it as well.
