My Thoughts on Secrets in Amish Country
Secrets in Amish Country is a wonderful suspense novel full of twists and turns plus a good bit of romance to offset the danger. I would say 99% of the time I only want romance if it’s in the midst of mystery and suspense. I’m in the reading for the suspense, not the romance. But then I’m an oxymoron because I do like the romance part too, because it’s the quiet and calm to the storm. Maybe that’s why most suspense novels have some romance too; I don’t know for sure. That’s all just my speculations.
I’ve found that I really enjoy a good Amish fiction novel. And I particularly enjoy their suspense. I’m not sure if it’s because we have large Amish and Mennonite communities near us, or if it’s just that they are peace-loving and it’s interesting to see how they respond to danger and violence. In our communities, we’ve seen several arson fires and watched them rebuild quickly and efficiently. It’s amazing to see.
Now for this story.
Eve’s father was murdered. And then her brother suddenly and suspiciously died. Then she comes home to gunfire. Is someone targeting her family? And if so, who?
She wants the truth. She wants answers. And so she decides to work with the assistant police chief who happens to be a childhood friend of hers, Casey. Casey is determined to solve the case and keep Eve safe while doing it.
But what if the darkness has its own plan to win?
The woods hold secrets. And they’re determined to keep them. Even if they have to keep killing to do so.
Can Casey and Eve uncover the darkness without losing themselves or their lives? Will God stay with them and protect them? Can Eve repair her relationship with God and rely on Him to guide her?
This was such a great novel. It read fast and furious, and I couldn’t put it down. I will be re-reading this one as I feel there is more I can glean and pick out that maybe I missed the first time.
There are overriding themes within the novel such as truth, forgiveness, second chances, and redemption.
