About the Author of A Small Town Fourth of July
Janice Carter has been writing romance novels, in particular Harlequin romances, for a very long time. What began as a hobby when she was working full-time and helping to raise two daughters continues in retirement as a wonderfully satisfying hobby! When she isn’t writing, she is playing with her granddaughter, enjoying cottage life, travelling and always reading!
My Thoughts on A Small Town Fourth of July
I live near a small town. I grew up in an even smaller small town. When you hear the country songs about small towns and they say they have one stop light. . . they’re bigger than my small town! Ours only has stop signs.
This was a fun light romance novel to read as the fourth came around. With an infant this year (he was four months old) I didn’t go to the fireworks shows and watch them. Instead, I stayed home with him. . and might have had cows get out of their pen for our own excitement. My kids and husband got to enjoy the fireworks though and had loads of fun telling me about them!
I’m not a fan of donkeys and mules as we’ve had bad experiences with them on our farm but I enjoyed their involvement in this story as therapy animals. Having a therapy business based on equines has been something we’ve thought of doing with our farm so it was interesting to read about therapy with animals.
Things are awkward between Theo and his son Luke. Theo is a bit of a workaholic and his son hasn’t had a lot of time with him. So they’re bonding while Theo deals with his inheritance. When they get to their new/old home Theo remeets the twins that he spent time with when he would vacation here. It’s a bit awkward.
From there the relationships emerge and things evolve. I enjoyed reading this book and figuring out what is happening and how everything works together. It’s a sweet romance without any violence or suspense.
