Homeschool Review Crew

Have you been looking for a full curriculum online for your homeschool?  Or maybe just some supplemental learning?  I’m here to help!  We love using SchoolhouseTeachers.com for extra school help in our journey.  As part of the homeschool review crew, we have access to their Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership.

Since I have kids ages one year all the way up to almost 15 we cover a vast array of subjects in our house.  This can get really expensive if you’re buying textbooks and workbooks for all those subjects.  Recently I’ve switched over to doing a lot of our school in download or online format.  Having the option for a full curriculum online that I can use or just select pieces from is amazing!

About the Program

Full Curriculum Online

SchoolhouseTeachers.com offers everything you need to homeschool from preschool through senior year.  This includes electives and required subjects.  You can easily take your state requirements and match them up against the scope and sequence by grade or simply piece together your own grade levels.

There are several ways to use this full online curriculum.  You can do a grade by sticking to the scope and sequence or simply pick and choose your own.  Within the site, you will find that you can use interactive subjects or simply download/print the curriculum you wish to use.  There are also videos and resources to use with the curriculum.  It really is all-inclusive.

One subject that I was shocked at what was offered was music.  I thought it would just learn how to read music or music theory.  There are actual lessons on there to teach you to play an instrument!  That is amazing!

Do you pay for a video streaming service?  What do you use it for?  It’s highly possible if you’re using it for educational purposes that this will take over for it!  SchoolhouseTeachers.com has over 450 videos to stream to help teach your child and you as well.

What about reading?  There is a literacy center with hundreds of downloadable books that your child can learn to read using.  It’s also great for ESL or those kids who just might need more reading practice.

Need an encyclopedia?  The World Book is available on the site for searching and use.  I love this aspect because I hate to think what might come up if my kids are searching on google for answers.

Also for the mamas!  There are several downloadable planners for your use. Plus there is an online homeschool record keeping feature you can use.  I have not tried that out but I do love to print the monthly and weekly calendars to create little planners so my kids know what they need to do when.

Memberships

There are two membership levels.  The one we receive as part of the Homeschool Review Crew is the Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership.  This gives us unlimited access to all the courses for the full year.  The second membership is the Standard Membership of PreK-8th grade.  You get access with this membership to hundreds of courses but not all of the courses.

If you are interested in a membership there is a discount code you can use until the end of January.  Use code ONLY99 to get the annual membership for $99 or use code ONLY12 to get a monthly fee of $12.

I have to say I love that it is not a per child fee and you never have to buy a textbook.  For our large family with 11 children, I love finding places that don’t charge per child or extra after a certain number of children for their family rate.

Our Thoughts

Wow.  When I first accessed the SchoolhouseTeachers.com site it was all a bit overwhelming.  There are so many courses it’s hard to choose a starting spot.  And with my number of children, it was hard to decide on who to focus on first.

It’s actually very easy to log in to the site which I appreciate.  From there once I wrapped my brain around the vast amount of knowledge that this full curriculum online held it was easy to grab a grade and get to work!

For us, I knew that I wanted to focus on some foreign language this year as well as add some science in for a few kids.

So first I clicked on subjects, from that drop down bar I chose foreign languages.

There are several foreign languages to choose from including French, Latvian, ASL, and Spanish.  The two languages we want to focus on this year are French and German so we’re going to use the French course.

This is a three-year course and can be used for all ages and grades which is nice for me.  It is also specifically designed for homeschool students. I love how easy it is.  I don’t have to come up with a lesson plan or anything, just follow the instructions.  The course outline shows everything we’ll cover in year one and how many weeks it will take.

Because it only has twenty lessons or weeks I think we will be able to cover two years within our one school year if we work hard at it.  Otherwise, we might turn the three-year outline into a two-year outline.

I also want to share really quick all of the subjects that are offered.  The main subjects that you can click on for expansion are Art, Bible, Computer and Technology, Drama and Speech, Electives, Foreign Languages, Geography, Health and Fitness, History, Language Arts, Math, Music, Science, Social Studies, and Unit Studies.

Within each subject, there are several courses for all ages as well as those targeted to specific grades.  If you just want specific grades there is a dropdown bar you can click on grades and see what all is available for that grade.

Final Thoughts:

We love this resource and highly recommend it for anyone wanting a full curriculum online or simply just one or two subjects to finish fleshing out your year.  Can be used for all ages.  By that, I mean that I’m taking a few courses on there too!  I love the Bible courses and I’m learning French right alongside my children.
