As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, we were recently given the chance to review an art curriculum through Artistic Pursuits, Inc.  We chose a book from the Kindergarten and Elementary Art section.  The book we chose is volume four of the eight-volume set.  Artists that Shaped the Italian Renaissance is the title of the physical book we received.

About the Program

Artists that Shaped the Italian Renaissance is the fourth book in the elementary book series.  There are eight books total.  Each volume comes as a physical hardback book.  They can be purchased together or separately.  With the book also comes a video instruction DVD and a BluRay disc.

Our book includes 18 lessons which include 12 text lessons featuring Master Works as well as 6 video lessons with the instructions. The book is done by Brenda Ellis.

Artistic Pursuits, Inc. not only sells the books you need to learn art but also the supplies.  You can purchase the supplies through them or on your own.  You can purchase the book by itself, the supplies by themselves, or a combination of all the supplies and book together.

Our Thoughts

We have reviewed curriculum through Artistic Pursuits, Inc. before and have loved all that we’ve had the pleasure of using.  As the parent, I love that the instructions are all-inclusive so really all I have to do is offer some help and support to the children doing the art without having to teach the whole thing.  I also like the list of supplies that will be needed.

I chose this book for our review because I really want to expose my children to more of the great works of art from the Renaissance period and with all libraries and museums closed around us currently, this felt like a great way to do that as well as learn the art.  In conjunction with this, we have been doing a history course on the Italian Renaissance and learning about the lives of our painters.

My children love to do art and draw, colour.  I, however, am horrible at it and do not feel qualified to teach it.  This is why I’m always so pleased and happy to get to review an art curriculum.

Each book has a supply list.  Our supplies include watercolors and oil pastels.  I did already have both of those on hand from previous art projects.  They are not the same brand but since I could not find the recommended watercolor brand I decided to use ours instead.  We do not have art supply stores around us so I rely on purchasing our supplies off Amazon.
