Egglo Entertainment Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs #hsreviews

Egglo Review
As part of the TOS homeschool review crew, we received a neat package in the mail a month or so ago.  I know it’s a little early to be talking Easter, but this review is centered around Easter.  Egglo Entertainment has developed a line of Easter related items to help you teach your kids more about Easter than just trying to find the golden egg.

From Egglo Entertainment we received the Glow in the Dark Egglo Eggs, The Egg-Cellent Easter Adventure book as well as an audio download of the book, Egglo Treasures Scripture Scrolls, and the Egg-Cellent Easter Adventure Program Guide.  I know that’s a lot of products to throw at you all at once, but they all go together and I’ll be telling you more about them below.

Egglo Review
First, when we opened the package my kids saw the box with eggs in it and were ecstatic.  You see, we don’t normally do much in the way of an Easter egg hunt.  We’ve done a few with them in the past but they were just empty eggs with nothing inside.  Or maybe each egg might have a small something.  But egg hunting isn’t a major part of Easter to us.  Somehow though, other kids seemed to think our kids were weird for not knowing about the Easter bunny and eggs.  My kids thought they were weird for not knowing about the HOPE of Easter.

So we compromised with the Egglo Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs!

The Glow in the Dark Egglo Eggs come with 12 eggs per box at a price of $9.99 per box.  They are in 4 different colors so you get 3 eggs of each color.  And guess what?  They really do glow in the dark!  My kids thought this was so cool.  We really haven’t experienced a lot of things that glow in the dark around our house unless you count the cats eyes or a flashlight.  You can easily recharge the eggs anytime they decide to not glow as well using a light.  It’s explained with the eggs how to do this.

Egglo Review
The eggs by themselves are really so much fun!  My kids first had to hide them and find them themselves.  For example, the oldest would hide them and then the two youngest would find them.  We did this in the school room with all the lights on.  They didn’t yet know that they glowed in the dark.  Then we read the storybook.  The Egg-Cellent Easter Adventure Book is a cute little story that teaches kids more than just about the Easter bunny and eggs.  It teaches them some of the true meaning of Easter.  I say some because it doesn’t go all out and lay the Scriptures out there for them, but this really and truly strikes me as a great way to share some of the true meaning of Easter with kids who may otherwise never hear it.

In the story we follow a group of kids as they find the treasure chest and an egg that glows.  Inside the egg they find a clue to find the next egg.  This clue is a Scripture verse which brings us to another review item of the  Egglo Treasures Scripture Scrolls.  The scrolls are placed inside the eggs and then when the egg is found the Scripture on the scroll is read to reveal a clue.  The scrolls can be purchased for $4.29 for a package of 12.  So if you buy the eggs and the scrolls you will have exactly the same amount(until someone loses one or the other).   In the story the children follow the trail of eggs and learn about God, His word and how if you follow this it will guide you in your path.  If you follow the LIGHT you will reach the destination.

Egglo Review
My kids loved the scrolls.  They’re cute, they’re small, and the verses are simple.  Now, these are not a KJV full Scripture.  I’m not sure that they are exact word for word from any Bible translation.  But, they are the main point of the verse and they get across the meaning of each verse.  The verses that are used come from 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Deuteronomy 6:5, proverbs 3:5-6, Matthew 5:16 and 28:20, John 1:4, 1:5, 3:16, 8:12 and 12:46.

The main point of the glowing eggs and the scriptures is to point toward Jesus as being the Light of the World.  They also are helping to connect the Easter egg hunt with something related to Christ and not just the cute fluffy bunny.   The main Bible verse behind the whole message and story with the eggs and the book is:  The light [of Jesus] shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5).  If you think on that verse everything that this company has created is working to show this to everyone, not just the Christian who is already attending church.

Also available(and something we received to review) with the Easter kit from Egglo Entertainment is the 30 minute audio download of the Easter Adventure book.  You can purchase it for $2.99.  It’s a great little way to be able to sit with your kids and share in the listening of the story as you go through the book.   It has chimes that sound when you should turn the page which is wonderful for the young readers who are really just pretending they can read and want to make believe they are big and doing it themselves.

There is another piece to this ever growing puzzle in the program guide.  This is a downloadable guide to go with the Adventure book.  Available for purchase at $14.99 it downloads as two separate files.  It is 60 pages of activities and step by step ideas for using this as a study with children and to help them get the most out of the program.  You can use it for a Sunday School or a group activity or just with your own children.   It has coloring pages, snack ideas, and much more.  And because it is a download you can easily print out as many sheets as you need.

In conclusion, my kids loved playing with the eggs whether in the dark or not.  It was more fun in the dark though.  We read the book before we played in the dark with the eggs and I was a very mean mommy in that I only let the kids find one egg before we turned the lights back on and read the scripture scroll inside.  After we read the verse we then talked about it.  We also looked the verse up in our Bible and read the KJV scripture.  The KJV is our preferred reading material.   After reading the verse this way we would then turn off the lights and find another egg to do the process all over.  A few fun things to do with the eggs are to replace the scrolls with clues to lead your kids to find their snack that goes along with the eggs.

This is a great little program for kids.  My kids already know the true story of Easter and so they didn’t really take that much away from this compared to what they knew before.  I do think that this would be a very powerful message for kids who have not heard.  This would be great to do with a Sunday School class or an after school Bible club as well.  My kids are still enjoying playing with these eggs and are getting hours of fun out of them.  We are going to use more activities from the program guide closer to Easter as well.  I know there are going to be some parents who aren’t happy with my kids for saying there is no such thing as an Easter bunny, but I think even those parents would be happy with this explanation of Easter and Jesus.

Yes! It was a lot of fun for my kids. They really enjoyed it. I think we’ll keep using the eggs for more than just Easter too. We can place little slips of paper for other school projects too. Great for PE! Find an egg with 10 jumping jacks in it and do what it says. . . oh the possibilities!

Glad you like it. My kids never did the Easter bunny because we didn’t know how to put a Christian spin on it. This way at least they get some of the kid fun!
