SckoonCup Menstrual Cup Review

SckoonCup Menstrual Cup

Ladies, let’s face it, they don’t call it the curse for nothing.  I’ve always dreaded my monthly cycle.  It’s rough.  But I have a new product and review to share with you!  I am finishing up a two month(ie two-cycle) review period of a menstrual cup from SckoonCup.

SckoonCup Menstrual Cup

First let me introduce you to a menstrual cup.  It simply is the natural and safer alternative to a tampon.  There are several different companies who make and sell menstrual cups, I’m not here to bash or compare.  SckoonCup is the only menstrual cup I have tried so I really am not an expert.  Read on to learn what I can tell you and about my experience!

Let’s talk facts first.  It is proven that you can die from using tampons.  Don’t believe me?  Look up Toxic Shock Syndrome.  Yes not everyone who uses tampons will die, but some will.  There was a girl who went to high school at my high school who died from Toxic Shock Syndrome.  Pretty scary.  Her mom came and talked to all of us girls when we reached the appropriate age.  That’s something you don’t ever forget.  I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve used a tampon, once.  Once.  That’s it and only long enough to help with a swimming lesson for a little girl I babysat.

A major selling point for me on the SckoonCup is that it is reusable.  You can use it again and again.  In fact, you really will only ever need one.  You can get more so you have one in say your car, your house, your boyfriend’s house, etc for those emergencies, but since you insert and dump, rinse, and reuse this menstrual cup there is no need for  a new one everyday or month.  Think of the money you save!

Okay so some math for you.  Using disposable pads you not only fill your own landfill(think about how many of those you use each month!) but you spend a fortune too.  When I was using disposable pads I would buy two packages for each period because I have heavy cycles and went through several to avoid embarrassing leaks.  So let’s say I was spending $8 per month, 12 months in a year, I was spending $96 per year on pads.  If you buy two SckoonCups so you have a spare you spend $77.98.  So a lifetime supply of menstrual cups is less than $100!  Or the equivalent of one year of pads.  WOW!!!  And no landfill.

So we’re being environmentally friendly, reducing landfill, being kinder to your body, and saving money.  Sounds good to me!

Ready for more details about why the SckoonCup is so awesome?  Let’s get talking!

  • They’re soft and flexible so insertion is easy.  Trust me.  I was scared about that one but it really was simple.
  • Up to 12 hours with no leaks even on heavy flow days.  Now I never went this long.  I’ve had 5 children and I tend to go to the bathroom a lot because I drink a gallon of water a day.  So I dump mine every 3-4 hours.  But NO LEAKS is huge for me because I have heavy flows.
  • You can be active with this in.  It’s slip proof.  Doesn’t move, again no leaks, and no embarrassment.
  • Amazingly comfortable.  I was worried I’d feel it the whole time and be all uncomfortable(ie my one tampon experience was like this) but it wasn’t.  You really do forget about it!
  • Made of a high-grade silicone and FDA approved.
  • Made in the USA!  This is another important factor to me.  I love supporting the USA.
  • Made from one piece of silicone so it is seamless.  This means no seam which means less chance of irritation and discomfort.
  • Safer for you and better for the environment(talked about these above).
  • Discreet.  No need to carry 10 pads with you everywhere you go.
  • Again flexible silicone.  This makes it easier to insert and the stem bends with you so as not to poke or cause discomfort.  As I mentioned before I was nervous about using this because I wondered how easy it would to be to bend and insert.  I’ve heard stories about putting menstrual cups in.  Super simple.  Don’t believe the stories.

Okay.  So now let’s talk about the actual SckoonCup.  I received a cup in Meditation(name of the color) with a cute little carrying bag.  Pretty awesome.  Put that in my purse and nobody knows what it is!  They just think it’s a cute little bag and I feel like I’m keeping my secret to myself.  Win win for me.

There are several different colors to choose from.  There are also small kits that include some cloth pads as well.  Awesome deals!  I love the variety they come in.

These are also available in two sizes.  The size is determined by whether you’ve had children vaginally or not, not your flow.  So make sure to read about the two sizes as well when ordering.  SckoonCup has a great website with lots of information that you can browse as well.

Check out their other social media areas as well to go visit. You’ll find them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.

So to sum up, menstrual cups are pretty awesome!  And SckoonCup and I are getting along wonderfully for the past few months.  It’s one of those things where once you try them you’re not going to want to switch back.  But don’t take my word for it.  Head on over to the website and get your own!

I am sooo glad I don’t need a product like this anymore. I do wish they had had it when I did need it-it would have made life a bit simpler.

I’ve heard of menstrual cups before, but not the Sckoon Cup. I like that the little arm at the bottom of it is textured, and probably a lot easier to get out than the ones with the smooth arm. I’ve always wondered about that aspect of the menstrual cup.

I’ve not tried the other brands but I do like the texturing on that as well as the design up at the top that makes for a good seal.

I’ve been using a menstrual cup for about 6 years now (Diva). I sometimes find it uncomfortable though, but then, tampons always bothered me too. It’s great how long you can leave them in, and you never have to worry about running out 🙂

I did not like the tampon the one time I used it. This I thought I would hate, but I don’t! And yes the no running out is the best ever!

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve actually used tampons since Highschool (which was longer ago than I care to admit!), but recently decided to stop using them. Only problem, my flow tends to be VERY heavy and I’m practically isolated to home for the first few days. I keep wanting to try a menstrual cup but have a few questions:
What do you do when in a public restroom? I get that you can dump, but you can’t exactly take it out of the stall to rinse… might be a ‘little’ weird. Ha! Secondly, they all seem to be made of silicone. I wonder what those with silicone allergies/sensitivities would use?? And what exactly causes toxic shock syndrome with tampons, but prevents these from causing it? Any effects possible from this method? Thanks for the post!

I’ve wondered about toxic shock with these but I also wonder if the toxic shock isn’t from the chemicals on the fibers of the tampon and possible leaving of fibers behind. Yeah public restroom might be a bit embarrassing to get out of the stall and rinse. In that case, I would want to have two so that I could insert a new one and take the used home to rinse. Before receiving this to review I used cloth menstrual pads and have wet bags which would be perfect for transporting.

I actually bought a menstrual cup to try and then was pregnant and then had an emergency c section and hysterectomy… um, no more monthly cycle for me 😉 Well, hormonally yes, but that’s it. I was actually really disappointed I couldn’t try it out! I was dying to know how it worked. 😉 Thanks for sharing and linking up at Favorite things Friday, next time be sure to add a link back or button to be eligible to be featured, I’d love to see you on my blog!
