Preschool Stories and Workbooks

Homeschool Review Crew

Do you have a preschool age child?  Interested in some preschool stories and workbooks?  We’ve recently been using a fun new curriculum we wanted to share.  This would be MESSYLEARNING FOR PRESCHOOLERS AND KINDERGARTNERS from PandaParents.   We initially received three months worth of stories/workbooks but are supposed to receive three more months as well as part of our review through the Homeschool Review Crew.  All that we received came via PDF downloads and videos that could also be downloaded.

I am very much a physical book type person so am excited to share that they are planning on having a subscription that includes a physical workbook and physical book.  Other options are just receiving the workbook as a physical copy or getting everything as a download like we did.  If given an option(if we were purchasing the program) I would choose to get everything physical except obviously we’d still have to go online to watch the videos.

How We Used

You can use the downloads on line or print them off.  We printed off the workbooks that we used but did not print off the books.  I also had to print in black and white.  The workbooks are in amazing color so I’m excited to see them offer that as a physical product.  You can print them off in color but we don’t have that much colored ink at our disposal.  Black is always in stock though!  If you’re printing off these cute preschool stories you’re definitely wanting to stock up on colored ink.

Another part of the workbook that was a bit saddening while being printed off was that there were super cute stickers that weren’t actually stickers.  Obviously with printing those just came off as pieces of paper.  You could definitely cut them out and glue them on the pages they should go on though.  My children absolutely love love love cutting and gluing so that was what we chose.

I used this with an almost five year old.  Her older sister who is doing the same grade level with her but age seven also sat in and did some with us.  Her age and development are not the same so she’s really at the five year old level as well.  They loved the bright colors on the screen and were disappointed in the workbook.  This is only because I didn’t print it off in color.  Once they got past the fact that it wasn’t the same colors etc they enjoyed the work.

Each Month Usage

We worked through the Mommy Baby month first which was really a bit funny as we had just found out we are expecting and told the children so that was super fun.  I love when our school and preschool stories can mimic life.  They had all kinds of questions that had nothing to do with the content though.  The main premise of this cute story is that the little child doesn’t want to go to bed so mommy plays a game with her to get her to go to bed.  I was shocked at everything that the workbook covered from feelings to letters and back to story comprehension/retention.  This was definitely a favorite.

We skipped A Jolly Jingling Journey as we don’t do Santa Claus in our house and the whole premise is about a young boy who wants to go to the North Pole to find Santa Claus.  I did look at the story and such and it definitely is the same level and production as the other two so something that kids would love to do.

The last month we’ve received(month three of our six) is Scotty Skunk Hears a Scary Sound.  My girls are loving this one as well though I’m thinking I might lose my sanity by the time we’re done with it. Not because of the story or program(they’re great) but because everytime they see the skunk they go “pee yew smelly” or “eww yuck”.  Just a bit of fun they’re having!

About the Program

This is designed to be used with children ages 3-6.  It’s a colorful eye catching mix of learning styles to help engage and teach all learning types.  Available as a subscription or individual purchase coming soon(releases in print format in December 2018) each month is a new story to read and follow.  Each month you receive a story to read(print or digital-ours was PDF), a workbook(again ours was PDF), and a video.  They all cover the same information.  The video is basically an animated version of the book.  It is definitely geared to the target age range and did not interest me or my older children.

Using this program with your child requires just that, you helping them use the program.  It’s not just a program you can hand to your young child and let them do as they will.  While they could watch the video on their own they do need your help to work on the workbook pages and read the story to them.

Check out the Main Homeschool Blog Post to look at the other reviews to see how they used this product and what they liked/disliked about it.  I think it’s a great little program of preschool stories and workbooks.  I’m not sure I’d use it as our only curriculum but definitely something fun for before we start our favorite kindergarten stuff.  You can also find these guys on facebook, twitter, and instagram
