Become a Critical Thinking Detective
Become a Critical Thinking Detective
Homeschool Review Crew
Have you ever wanted to help your children learn to think? To help them better understand and pick out important topics but have no idea how to do it? There is help! We’ve recently been reviewing Critical Thinking Detective Book 1 from The Critical Thinking Co.™. It’s been teaching my children to become a critical thinking detective while allowing them to have fun while learning.
About the Curriculum
We received a physical copy of our book though digital downloads are also available. I love having physical books to work through. There’s just something about holding a new book of curriculum! This is not a full curriculum book but rather a supplemental book to add to something you’re already doing. I would personally(and did) classify this as part of our reading/language arts for hours purposes if you need to do that.
This cute resource is 32 pages long and geared towards grades four and up. There are twelve cases to be solved. It focuses on building up both comprehension when reading, observation, plus deductive and inductive reasoning skills. Become a critical thinking detective while thinking you’re solving the best crimes! At least that’s how my kids viewed it! Really and truly these work on building logic skills and I feel this is an important area to help our children grow in.
The answers are provided in the back of the book which is good because a few mysteries almost got us stumped! It was nice to have the answers to give the kids clues as to what sentences to look for or who to look closer at.
Not only do they get information but they also get visuals for each mystery. Each mystery gives basically drawings of each of the suspect so when you’re told that the thief had brown hair you can go through and mentally(or physically) cross off the ones that don’t fit. It helps to really put that reading and applying into the process.
How We Used
Something I love about this company is that they do allow reproduction of their products for home use. So I was able to use this with two of my children who are approximately 6th grade. One is 13 and one is 11 for age reference.
Wow guys. Some of these are really good. I did them too, but not with my kids and a few times I got stumped because I over think and over analyze. Basically I thought statements were untrue because I’m a skeptic. It was really fun watching my children solve these as they just assume everyone was telling the truth about where and when and then had to cross reference. While both kids did do the mysteries they did them independently and then we discussed the answers.
