Join me on reading about and loving on three books in the Beauty in Flight Series by Robin Patchen. I had the pleasure of reading all three and loved every minute. They are fast spellbinding reads. I received ebook copies of all three books in the series for my reviews from JustRead Publicity Tours.
Book 1: Beauty in Flight
The first book in the Beauty in Flight series is Beauty in Flight. Harper Cloud grew up in Kansas but dreamed of grandeur. Off she went to LA, from there it was a hop, skip, and jump to Vegas. Her parents discovered her dancing in a strip club. But that’s not the worst of it. Her boyfriend got her caught up in his evil plans and she went to jail as an accessory to robbery and manslaughter.
Out of jail and trying to make a better life for herself she works as a nurses aide in a nursing home. She’s seeing/emailing a man from Maryland. And she feels like there is someone watching her every move. Is she paranoid? What is happening to her? When her favorite resident urges her to accept her boyfriend’s job offer of caring for his aging grandfather she accepts. After all, she was attacked in the alley by her apartment and saved by her old boyfriend’s friend. A man who should still be in jail. But he’s not. And she doesn’t feel safe.
So off to Maryland, she goes. She’s running from something and only time will tell what. Why does she still feel watched in a new state and home? Is Derrick too good to be true? Can she really trust anyone but herself?
I love Derrick’s grandfather. He goes by Red. He’s got all the money he’ll ever need plus some, but he feels lost without his wife. His son and daughter-in-law are also gone leaving him with Derrick being his only family.
It’s only after going with Derrick to meet some “business acquaintances” for a beach weekend that Harper realizes just what is going on. Derrick is a gambler. Not just a fun and done gambler but in big trouble and over his head. He owes some people some serious money and he’s not above using her to get it.
Great first book. I was so glad that I received all three books to review because I would have gone nuts waiting for the next book. It definitely leaves you on a cliff hanger so make sure you get all three together or you’re going to be mad at the author!

Book 2: Beauty in Hiding
After finding two men dead in Red’s living room Harper ran away with Red. In book two we find them heading to a new town and a new life. Harper shall pose as Red’s granddaughter and hope that his memory will not cause too many problems. He’s getting more and more forgetful. She can only hope she cleared the antifreeze from his system before it did permanent damage. And oh how she wishes she’d grabbed a few more things before fleeing. Like the picture of his dear wife.
They find a rental house in Nutfield, New Hampshire. Their landlord lives next door and is extremely helpful. Maybe too helpful. It’s going to be very difficult to keep him at arm’s length away. Jack Rossi is kind and caring and everything Harper doesn’t need right now. All men are out to get something from her and she can’t trust anyone but herself.
Now she has to find a job to make money. They can’t risk digging into Red’s accounts and being found. That would lead Derrick or the people he owes money to straight to them in too short order. Harper will do whatever it takes to keep Red safe.
As Harper settles Red into a new house Jack keeps giving her help she doesn’t know she needed. He sets them up for adult daycare at a center he volunteers at. And then he feeds them and gives them furnishings. Just as Harper begins to let her guard down things go south fast.
Harper is found out. She just knows it. Red ends up in the hospital and Harper has ex-law enforcement knowing her life story. But can she protect Red? If she goes back to Maryland what will happen to him? Will Derrick succeed him killing Red? How much does Red remember of those last 24 hours before they fled? Should Harper have told him everything? Can Harper ever truly trust again?
Another great book. I’ve tried not to share the super great spoilers that I want to add in here. Definitely get this series and enjoy the books for yourself. You will not be sorry.

Book 3: Beauty in Battle
The last book of our Beauty in Flight Series brings Harper back to Maryland. Back to Red’s house. She’s running from some unseen evil and the evil she knows in Derrick. He tried to kill his grandfather at least twice and she knows he won’t hesitate to hurt her.
She must tell the truth. Jack has come with her for support but she has to tell law enforcement the whole truth. With a great lawyer on her side, she’s sure to be believed. Right? Wrong. As soon as she tells the detectives her tale she’s thrown into jail. no big deal, she’s been here before. Only this time she knows Jack is waiting for her and her lawyer is working for her. They believe her at least. But will it be enough?
After Jack finds an alibi and Harper is released they head out to get the picture for Red. He still wants his wife with him. What they find is so much more than they bargained for.
Derrick made it to the house before them and has no issues with killing. He’s going to die if he doesn’t come up with the money he owes so why not take a few people with him. Jack and Harper only hope to escape with their lives.
But then there is the unaccounted person. Who moved the dead bodies? Who’s been following Harper? And will she ever live to see her family again? Now that she finally wants to make amends is it too late?
Yet another great book in this series. I loved all three and really enjoyed this author. Might have to add that I did know who was the “to blame” guy from book one but that’s okay. Still great suspense and mystery and kept me reading! Definitely, recommend the series.
