The Easter Storybook
Homeschool Review Crew
David C Cook
As we prepare for a very different Easter this year than we have ever known I am heavily relying on books to keep my children and myself even entertained. The Easter Storybook is a new book that we received to review as part of the Homeschool Review Crew that will stay on our shelves for years to come. David C Cook brings this wonderful story to life in this fully illustrated book for children.
The Easter Storybook 40 Bible Stories Showing Who Jesus Is bears Laura Richie as it’s author with Ian Dale doing the illustrations.
About the storybook
The Easter Storybook contains 40 full-color wonderfully illustrated stories. With these stories comes the Bible passage and a few questions at the end to have a good discussion with your children. It’s like Advent but for Easter in a storybook format.
For ages 4-8 this book explains who Jesus is, what He did, why He came, and why His death and resurrection matter even to us today. While this says 4-8 I will say this is relevant to all ages in my opinion from the littlest ears to the oldest ones in the house. If you read my thoughts below you’ll see how this little storybook spoke to me.
This book is made to be read daily during the Lenten Season. With doing this by the time Easter comes your child should have full knowledge of what we celebrate and why. The Advent Storybook, a companion to The Easter Storybook, can be used with this book to make sure your child knows Jesus as a Rescuer, Redeemer, and Friend.
David C Cook as a company gives of its proceeds to bring the Bible to those who before have had no access. They are spreading the Gospel to the world!
Our Thoughts
Is it wrong to say that this book affected me? I’m going to share a photo of one of the stories that really touched me right now in our uncertain times. It’s about worry. I am having a hard time with worry and anxiety currently. It’s something I struggle with on the daily but gets worse when the times are tough so to speak.
This story reminds us about how God cares for us and will look out for us no matter what. We just need to trust in Him. It doesn’t make our uncertain times go away but it should help us let go a bit and enjoy the time we have in the here and now. As the blades of grass come up green and strong it’s a wonderful reminder and one I personally needed as well as one to have some good chats with my children about.
Need a good devotional? This fits that bill in our house and I highly recommend it. We like to do devotions as a family over breakfast and then again before bed. This has replaced our morning devotional book. Unfortunately, I thought we wouldn’t finish this book before Easter but with the relaxed school schedule and missed outings we’ve had extra time to read a few extras here and there and I think we’re on track to read the last the morning before Easter.
