My Thoughts on Taking Chances:
This is the fourth book in a series titled Being Zoey. We had the pleasure of reviewing book #3 as well. These are fairly solid good books for your middle school or tween age children. Zoey has a lot of emotions and some unique situations that keep life interesting.
I feel this book teaches some good lessons with the main one being forgiveness. My girls enjoyed reading the third book and this one. They did mention they wished they had started reading with book one which is of course what is preferred. Reading books the way they’re written always gives you a bit better of an understanding.
Watching Zoey come out of her shell and gain confidence was fun. But can she keep her faith when things aren’t going well?
This is a series we can recommend for a tween or teen girls. Boys can read it too, but mine were not interested.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
About the Author of Taking Chances
Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books (with sales of around 6.5 million) for teens, women, and children. That’s a lot of books, but mostly she considers herself a “storyteller.” Her young adult novels (Diary of a Teenage Girl, True Colors etc.) appeal to teenage girls around the world. Her annual Christmas novellas become more popular each year. She’s won a number of awards (including RT’s Career Achievement Award, the Rita, and the Gold Medallion) and some of her books have been optioned for film/TV. Carlson has two grown sons and makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and yellow Lab dog.
More from Melody
Sometimes I feel guilty for ‘torturing’ my teen and tween characters, but I do it for my readers. It’s not easy being an adolescent and reading about someone who’s facing hard times is comforting. But in the final Zoey book, I really wanted to give her some victories too. So when challenges come her way, she stands up to them. And she even puts her newly found faith to work. The goal is for readers to feel hopeful about their own lives when they see Zoey rise above her tough circumstances.
