Truth Becomes Her

Do you have trouble finding good gifts for girls?  I love to give my girls books for birthdays and holidays because it’s something they love and I love for them to have good books.  Recently with the Homeschool Review Crew, we have been reading and reviewing The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS from Truth Becomes Her

We received a great little care package in the mail full of fun gifts for girls from the company and we’re very excited to share them with you!

What We Received

We received a box in the mail from Truth Becomes Her.  I was expecting just one book.  Instead, to my surprise, it was chockfull of goodness for my girls!

In our box was the book we were expecting, The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS plus three other books.  We also received RINGLEADERS Journal for Mothers and Daughters, The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS a Devotional for Girls, and The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS coloring book.

This was such a fun unexpected gift and we can’t wait to share more about them below.

About the Books

Have you ever wanted a good role model for your girls?  What if that role model just happened to come from the Bible?

Below I’m going to chat about the main book we received.  Check out my thoughts section for information about all of the other pieces as well.

The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS

Gifts for Girls

In The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS, you will find just that.  They introduce you to six women from the New Testament who were true heroines. The best role models come from the Bible in our opinion and I love having another good book to solidify this with my children.

The book has nine chapters.  There are 200 pages within the book though lots of the pages are full-color illustrations.

This book belongs in a series of books centered around Rooney Cruz.  She gets to travel to different places and times and meet all kinds of fun people.  We have not read any of these books before but that did not make this one any less spectacular.

Our Thoughts

Gifts for Girls

First thoughts on opening the box were on how colorful and bright all of the books are.  The front of the Journal is mostly white but even then it is eye-catching.  The illustrations within the books and on the covers and so pretty and really just make the books amazing.

I am a book lover, maybe even a book collector.  Okay.  So.  If I’m totally honest we have more books than anything else in our home.  I am a firm believer in offering up good literature to our children.  And in turn, maybe even because of this and the fact they see me reading a lot, my children love to read and are almost always caught with their noses in books.

These books are really well written and gorgeous and are definitely ones that will stay on my shelves.  In fact, I’m looking into more of the Rooney Cruz books for possible Christmas presents for some of my girls.

I do have to say that all of these books that we received would make excellent gifts for girls both young and old.  If asked for an age range I would say probably around five through teens would enjoy the devotions.  While the book is geared to more elementary and middle school-age girls my high school-aged girl thought it was cute and enjoyed reading it as well.

Main Book

In the main book, Rooney learns about women from the New Testament who are true heroines.  But she also learns that she has superpowers herself.  Those five superpowers are prayer, patience, loyalty, bravery, and leadership.  It also emphasizes that we all have a voice and that even the voice of a young girl is powerful and that we should be using it for the Lord.

This is a good book to read aloud or have older children read on their own.  My older girls were able to read through it really quickly.  One of my ten-year-old girls read it on her own and then I read it aloud for my younger girls.  My other ten-year-old and my seven years old are not strong enough readers to read it on their own just yet and my two years old just adores being read to.

You might find if you do this as a read-aloud that your boys even sit and listen too.  At least, mine did!

Devotional

To me, the devotional is a bit like a cliff notes version of the book.  Each day you get a good solid nugget from it and it gives you good talking points and questions to work through with your daughters.

The devotional is good for using as a unit.  For me, I read the daily devotion while all my girls sat around and listened.  Obviously, my older girls were able to answer probably more in-depth than the younger ones but I was pleasantly surprised at what my younger girls (10, 10, and 7) were able to add to the discussion.  My youngest is two and really didn’t add much yet but she did sit and listen with us.

Coloring Book

The coloring book is just fun!   We had to go through and mark pages with names so that everyone got an even number because all of my girls wanted to color in it.  Even teenagers!  I have seven daughters so learning and growing and giving them solid books and role models is very important.  The fact that this coloring book is such a hit is a wonderful testament to it.

In the coloring book, the pages only have images on one side.  So no coloring both sides of the page.  My girls liked this because they can use markers without bleed through.  The images are scenes from the book.  If your girls are like a few of mine they will want the book next to them while they color so they can try and make sure they get all of the colors right!

Journal

The last book we received in our box was the journal.  The journal is helping to emphasize that every voice matters.  There are sections for mother and daughter to write.  There are also subcategories in the journal for writing about the women that are being discussed in the devotional.  It’s meant to be a companion.

It is a lovely book with some subtle artwork throughout.  We have not personally been using this as I do have more than one daughter and I wasn’t sure how to use this with just one and not the rest of the girls.  Instead of using this we are using just a notebook and taking our cues from it.  So the same idea and I read any of the information from the journal out loud to all of the girls.
