Do you have a homeschool child who wants to go to college after graduation?  Preparing for college has seemed daunting to me with the transcripts and making sure I’ve done all the right classes and been diligent in record keeping.  Through the Homeschool Review Crew, we received a six-month subscription to a course called the College Launch Solution from The HomeScholar LLC.

My oldest is going into her junior year of high school this year. She wants to be a veterinarian so I knew that we needed to do all the sciences but I wasn’t sure what I would need to do to help her get into the college of her choice.  I had no clue what paperwork she was going to need.  So I knew I needed this review!  And I’m so glad we got it!

About the Program

Matt and Lee Binz created The HomeScholar LLC.  As homeschool parents themselves they understand the struggle.  They are also homeschool consultants who have helped others for over 15 years.  Lee Binz states that her three core beliefs in homeschooling are the following.  First, that homeschooling independently creates the best possible learning environment. Second, that every child deserves and should have a college-prep education whether they then choose to go to college or not.  Third, that parents are capable of providing a superior education for their children.

I fully agree with the three core beliefs of Lee.  What strikes me the most is number three.  This is so true because we know them better and thoroughly and can cater to how they learn yes but also to why they learn and what will make them want to learn.

There were four products offered for review to Crew members.  These four products are Total Transcript Solution, Comprehensive Record Solution, High School Solution, and College Launch Solution.  We received the College Launch Solution so I will talk about how and what that is below.

College Launch Solution

This is an alternative to hiring a college admissions counselor.  With this program, you will be taught how to not only prepare your child for college and all of the steps you need to take from middle school upwards but also your child will learn what they need to do as well.

You’ll have help for everything from record-keeping to transcripts to applying for scholarships and so much more. It’s laid out by each school year and also designated where in that school year you should do each thing.  There are also options to purchase additions to the program which give you monthly seminars and more.  These are the gold and silver levels.

Once you purchase the course you have lifetime access to it and can use it for all of your children which also includes foster children.

There are over 67 hours of instruction within this program.  I can tell you that you will go back and rewatch certain things and also use the additional help that is offered.

Our Thoughts

First, I loved how everything was laid out so that I could easily navigate to where I needed to be.  Second, I really liked that there was a parent portion and a student portion.  It’s not all my responsibility as the parent to get my child preparing for college into her college of choice.  It’s a joint effort and it only makes sense that she should learn and do as well as me.  After all, she’s the one going to take the ACT and spend her days taking those college courses!

Preparing for College

I have spent the most time in the sections for record-keeping and transcripts.  Those to me are the biggest stressors of preparing for college with my daughter.  I want to make sure I don’t hurt her chances by doing something wrong or forgetting that one crucial piece.

Right now we’re not really focusing on scholarships.  I have on my calendar to really start looking into that area over the summer next year after her junior year.  She is 16 and starting her junior year this fall so that is also an area we focused on.   I really like that they have the whole middle school and high school years mapped out with the best times to do each task and what you should do each year.  I can see this being VERY helpful.  My daughter is the oldest out of a dozen and I know that not all will go to college but I will be traveling this path many times in the future.
