I Know It
If you’re looking for some fun online math help check out I Know It and their fun way of helping children supplement their math curriculum. We received a year’s online subscription to I Know It through the Homeschool Review Crew. The program is for grades K-5 and you can indicate what grade they are actually in versus what grade they are in work-wise. This works great for those who are behind.
The subscription to I Know It is for up to four students. This is the one thing we’d love to see change. We’re all for large family subscriptions because not all families only have four children.
About the Program
This program is one that you use as you want instead of doing one lesson each day. Within the K-5 program, there are over 600 math lessons. Your child progresses through them as they learn their facts.
If your child struggles in a specific area you can assign those lessons to them or let them move just at their own pace where they will. This is a supplemental program. Nothing is taught, but rather it offers practice for concepts that have been taught and just need help or worked on.
Each grade is broken up into ten different subjects. From there, there are lots of different questions in each one that can be worked on. Each lesson can be done once or ten times. There is no limit to the number of times they can be done.
Within each lesson are fifteen questions. This is nice because it doesn’t feel overwhelming for the child. Questions can e read aloud if your child is younger and not capable of reading them well on their own.
This program is common core aligned and based out of the United States so the language is very much American in nature. It is bright and colourful with rewards and prizes for correctly answered questions that keeps children interested and entertained and wanting to get the questions correct.
Each account has one login and then you can switch users to let the specific child that is going to be using the program login and complete their lessons. Each person has their own sticker or character to make choosing their person easier.
Our Thoughts
My kids think this is a fun program and enjoy doing their problems on here.
We have used this program before so I have over four children on the account currently but only four using it right now.
When you look at the children it tells you their level you gave them as to what grade they should be in and what grade they are working at. You can also view their progress, edit, or delete them.
I tend to normally use things that are not common core aligned as we don’t really align ourselves with that. But this is a fun program that my kids do enjoy using. So far, we have not found anything about the program that we don’t like or agree with.
I did have four children working in this program.
The first child I had working in it is 11 but more of a kindergarten or first-grade level. I started her off with first grade to see how she could do with it. I was pleasantly surprised by how well she did. She really liked how the program gave her an immediate reward and how bright and colourful it is.
Next up is my preschooler who I had just started out with kindergarten so that he could just have some math practice. He likes doing programs and it’s just supplemental so it gives me an idea of where he is at. When doing the program he did have to have me near him to guide him in how to use the program but the answering of the questions was fully up to him. He also liked doing the program and being a big kid with school
Number three child using the program is an older child who needs math help. She’s 16 but still struggles with math and works at a 3rd-4th grade level. I started her out with 3rd hoping she could move through it quickly and she did though she does tend to guess a lot on answers still. I was a bit worried that she would be put off by the fact that she was so much older than the other kids but she seemed to really enjoy the program and the rewards it offered.
My last kiddo using the program was my 8-year-old who I put in it at the second-grade level. She did really well. She enjoys working independently and working on math skills. In her other math program, she gets frustrated that she can’t be at her older sisters level who is advanced for her age so it was nice to get her into a program that her sister doesn’t do so that she can’t compare herself to her. Plus it’s not really a graded program for us.
As the parent
I like that the program gives me a one-stop-shop to get into all the accounts at once and see where they are. It’s nice to be able to assign assignments and know that they’re working on subjects that they need help on versus just working through lessons in a predetermined order.
Overall I am impressed with the program and it gets my stamp of approval. I’d like to see it go to higher grades as well as I know other children who could use a few lessons of help.
