Whatsoever Stories

My teens love to read.  It’s a great problem to have, but finding good solid young adult Christian fiction can be really hard to do.  So many books geared towards teens or young adults are not what I would want my children to be reading.

In our library and already well-loved and well-read is a copy of Prisoner of War by Kinsey M. Rockett and sent to us from Whatsoever Stories through the Homeschool Review Crew.  It’s an epic historical fiction set during WWII and a wonderful piece of clean young adult Christian fiction.

About the Book

Whatsoever Stories has a goal of creating wholesome good literature for the entire family.  While their books have a certain age range they can truly be used by the whole family.  These are to be enjoyed as read-aloud books for the family or individual reads as well.  Twice the enjoyment from one book!

The author behind the books, Kinsey M. Rockett, is a homeschool graduate so she knows how homeschool life works.  That is probably part of the reason behind making her books so family-friendly and easy to use as a read-aloud.

When we were given a choice of three books to review I chose Prisoner of War knowing that it was the one my children would enjoy the most.  It is geared towards ages 12 to adult or young adults, with teens as the primary age range.  However, it can really be enjoyed by the entire family.

Description

This historical fiction novel is set during WWII.  One brave young man mounts a rescue mission to recover men from the Prisoner of War camps.  It involves several brave people but also dangerous escapades.  Add in a hefty dose of history and it’s the makings of a wonderful novel.

But more than the danger and excitement of the novel you also have another key point to the story.  And that is also a rescue.  But not a physical rescue.  Rather a soul rescue if you get the picture.

The book is softcover.  It reads quickly at a total of 381 pages.  It can be read or purchased as an ebook or softcover book.  Published by Christian Faith Publishing it is available on most retail sites such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and more.

I found the cover to be a nice one.  It’s a bit dark and broody which fits into the book and the danger of the mission.

Our Thoughts

If you haven’t gathered by now from my blog, I am a huge fan of reading.  I read a lot.  My kids read a lot.  But,  as my kids have gotten older it has become more difficult to find good books for them to read.  Most books geared towards teenagers or young adults are not worth reading.  I have found that I have to pre-read most of them just to make sure that they’re going to be good books.

I was so happy to get the chance to review this book!  Because, I knew from the description that it was a book that I would not have to pre-read, in fact, I’ve had to fight to get to read it as my kids kept passing it around!

This book is a wonderful and clean young adult Christian fiction read.  Prisoner of War gets all the thumbs up from my children.

In fact, to take the pictures for this blog post I had to go searching to find the book!  It’s supposed to be on our piano as it’s our next family read-aloud book.  I was going to do it as soon as it arrived but my oldest son(age 15) quickly took the book and I didn’t see it again until he was done reading it. After he was done with it my son age 13 grabbed onto it and wouldn’t let it go until he was done!  Of course, after they had read it then I had four other teenagers who then thought they needed to read it as well before we could as a family!

So, in short, this has been a super well-loved book in our house.  It has already had seven individuals read it and it’s about to be read by the whole family.  We like to do our read-aloud books like this right after supper so it truly is a family affair with dad home too.
