Do you like to listen to action-packed audio adventures?  I personally love reading suspenseful tales and if I’m going to listen to a story I want it to have action and adventure.  My kids seem to be the same way.  We were thrilled to receive The Adventure Begins, Series 1 from Jonathan Park as part of a Homeschool Review Crew blog review. 

What better way to pass our time as we travel back and forth to homeschool group than to listen to a fun action-packed audio adventures cd?  My kids aren’t the best car travellers.  They get bored with just sitting in a vehicle pretty quickly.  And if I don’t have something or some way to entertain them the whining and fighting begins.  I hate whining and fighting and learned a long time ago that audio dramas were amazing for car rides. 

Our favorites are classic books we’ve read over and over but we love to check out new ones from the library from time to time.  I think we might have a new favorite action-packed audio adventures series in this one!

Not only are these stories imaginative, entertaining, and immersive, but they are also Bible and faith-based so you know you’re getting a good lesson taught and no questionable content.  I don’t know about you, but there is nothing worse for us than to get immersed in a story just to have to stop listening because it turned a corner we don’t want to turn.

If you’re new to Jonathan Park you might not know that there are now two series. 

The original series is geared towards ages 7-13.  There are nine albums in this series.  In this series, you join Jonathan as he travels the world encountering scientific evidence pointing to Biblical creation and Genesis.  It’s fun and exciting and definitely helps cement Biblical truths.  I love that it shows children how science can prove the Bible while also entertaining them. 

For the newer series, you get adventure!  The adventures series is geared towards ages 10-16.  There are ten albums in this adventure series.  Jonathan is still leading adventures around the globe but now he’s 16!  He’s off to the Middle East for archaeological evidence to back up the Bible.  And of course, there is plenty of adventure and fun along the way.  

The Adventure Begins

The adventure CD we received is Series 1.  This is the start of the adventure series.  Within our nice CD case, we found four CDs.  There are four albums, one per CD.  The titles are such fun adventures as The Secret of the Hidden Cave, African Safari, Art Heist, and Mystery at Dead Man’s Curve. 

In this series, there are over 5 hours of playing time!  There are four albums and each album is split up into three episodes.  The episodes are approximately 20-26 minutes in length.

You’re going to travel with Jonathan and his father as they run from the storm, meet a family, seek shelter, and find a dinosaur graveyard!  So much fun and adventure!

Some science topics you’ll encounter are:

• the evolutionary tree
• convergent evolution
• the laws of energy
• design of the water cycle

And some Biblical Faith-Building Takeaways are:

• Returning good for evil
• showing kindness
• consequences of sin

Our Thoughts

We loved this series!  My kids are already begging for the next set of adventures.  I’m sure if they have their way we’ll own all ten of the albums before the month is out.  And we will probably have listened to them all too!  The perk of living off in the middle of nowhere is that you do get to listen to a lot of action-packed audio adventures while driving!

I love that the series comes in a hard-backed case.  This keeps it safer in my van.  Let’s face it, my kids aren’t always watching what they’re doing and it’s probably been stepped on a few times.  It also protects it when it’s in our “go bag” that we bring in and out of the house with us.  

Can we talk about the CDs themselves?  One, I’m super glad they offer CDs.  Maybe I’m old school but I just love them versus the downloads.  Two, they are gorgeous!  There are wonderful illustrations on the CDs themselves.  Good thing they have protective sleeves because my kids love to look at them like you might a book.
