She doesn’t think much of the missing memories from between the earthquake that caused her dizzy spells and her trip home. Until she begins remembering the danger that sent her fleeing her last dig and the person responsible.
After a decade as a ranch hand, Silas Ward returned to Crow’s Nest to provide for the women in his life. That same protective instinct propels him to Cora’s aid. But when finances dwindle, the lies and greed of others threaten to ruin his family. Unless Silas can walk the thin line of compromise. A choice that might cost him Cora’s affection.
As winter’s chill threatens, will Crow’s Nest prove a refuge, or will both Cora and Silas have no choice but to sacrifice their chance at happiness to save those they love?
Welcome to Crow’s Nest, where danger and romance meet at the water’s edge.
My Thoughts on Refuge for the Archaeologist
First, I love that it’s set in the 1930s as that happens to be one of my favorite time periods for fashion. I know, I’m weird but I just really enjoyed how women dressed back then and their resilience.
Next, as a nurse, I love that this book focuses on a character who has a brain injury and shares how she is recovering and how that often looks. They did a great job showing that and how memories return, the frustration, etc.
With all that out of the way maybe it’s time to talk about the book.
This is book two in a series and I truly cannot wait for the next one to see what is going to happen next.
Cora is our main female character. She’s an archaeologist. While on a dig there was an earthquake and she sustained an injury to her head causing a brain injury. Now for the 1930s they weren’t as advanced as we are, so it’s likely she had some kind of swelling and maybe a bleed. Anyway.
She returns to her Aunt’s to recuperate and slowly begins to regain memories. One of which is that it’s not the earthquake that hurt her.
Silas Ward works for and looks out for her aunt. He’s also an all-around great guy and he’s going to team up with Cora. Whether they become romantically involved or not you’ll have to read to find out. You’ll also have to read to see if Cora can solve the mystery of what really happened on the dig and if she’s truly safe now or not.
