The Garden Girls

Title: The Garden Girls
Series: Strange Crimes Unit: South Division
Author: Jessica R. Patch
Publisher: Harlequin Love Inspired Trade
Release Date: April 23, 2024
Genre: Christian Psychological Thriller

On a remote Outer Banks island, a serial killer collects his prized specimens. And to stop him, an FBI agent must confront his own twisted past.

FBI agent Tiberius Granger has seen his share of darkness. But a new case sets him on edge. It’s not just the macabre way both victims—found posed in front of lighthouses—are tattooed with flowers that match their names. There’s also the unsettling connection to the woman Ty once loved and to the shadowy cult they both risked everything to escape.

Bexley Hemmingway’s sister has gone missing, and she’ll do anything to find her—including teaming up with Ty. That may prove a mistake, and not just because Ty doesn’t know he’s the father of her teenage son. It seems the killer is taunting Ty, drawing everyone close to him into deeper danger.

As the slashing winds and rain of a deadly hurricane approach the coast of North Carolina, the search leads Ty and Bex to an island that hides a grisly secret. But in his quest for the truth, Ty has ignored the fact that this time, he’s not just the hunter. Every move has been orchestrated by a killer into a perfect storm of terror, and they will need all their skills to survive…

The Garden Girls

My Thoughts on The Garden Girls

I have had the pleasure of reading all three books in this series now.  In my opinion, you do need to read them in order because you learn so much about other characters that help you to understand this novel better.  However, if you’re the rude kind of reader you could just pick up this book and not care about the trials and tribulations of the other characters!

This book centers on Tiberius.  Yeah.  What a name.  He’s an FBI agent and part of their religious crimes unit.  Any case having a tie to religion is going to go through their group.  He’s had his own case of religion.  You’ll learn this and you did learn it in another book, but he grew up in a cult.  He managed to get out and get away but he left his heart when he did.  I’m not gonna tell you the how or why of that but the book description does tell you he left the woman he loved and she was pregnant.  Shocker.  He didn’t know that last bit.

And he thought she was dead.  So yeah, there is that.

Now he’s on a new case.  A case that involves the woman he once loved.  Who is not dead just so you are aware.  Her sister is one of the missing women.  A few of these women have shown up posed in front of lighthouses.

Why would this be considered a crime for his team?

You’re going to need to read the book for all that information.  But somehow this case is inherently tied to Tiberius.  He can’t get away from the case even if he wants to.  And it’s personal now.  He will solve this case.  He will prove he’s not a failure.  But will he restore his relationship with God?  Can he find out for himself who God really is and why having a relationship with Him is important?

And can he protect everyone on his team plus those he loves with a hurricane imminent?

I’d also love to share a quote with you.  I really loved this quote from the book.  It spoke to me.

“We carry scars, little chips and cracks. They reveal our story, but there’s hope, Tiberius. There’s always hope that what was marred can be mended.”

Oh it is! Suspense of the best variety. I fell in love with the characters. They’re flawed and relatable.
