My Thoughts on Return of the Son

Return of the Son is a wonderful historical fiction novel but also a Biblical fiction novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.  I find that Biblical fiction can be hit or miss on whether I love it or not.  Sometimes it just doesn’t flow quickly and read easily.  It’s stilted.  It’s too much like reading the Bible and not enough like reading fiction to move and flow.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love reading the Bible.  It imparts a lot of wisdom and knowledge.  But when I’m reading fiction I want to read fiction.  I want to be immersed in the novel.  I want to just lose myself and the story to take shape and flow around me.  That is what makes good fiction.  And this Biblical fiction did that!

This novel takes you back to the time of King Herod.  Eve’s father is employed by him and has no heir.  So Eve is married off to a relative of the King.  Eve has no love for the king, in fact, she’d rather never see him again or have him on the throne. 

Will she pass up all chances of love?  What will she do?  She’s a woman in Bible times and doesn’t really have much of a choice.  Loved this novel!
