Drandar is the dragon that has been prophesied. He will help the king build a strong, safe kingdom as one of his faithful knights. But Drandar doesn’t seem to fit what a knight should be or even what a real dragon should look like. He’s what Seraphina calls a “late bloomer.” Drandar is droopy, discouraged, and doubting. Will he ever become the knight he’s supposed to be?

My Thoughts on Drandar the Dragon Knight

Drandar the Dragon Knight is a wonderful children’s book! It’s focused towards the middle grade years, but I think all ages will enjoy!  It is a chapter book.  If you’ve got a child who loves dragons or the medieval and all things knights, this is the book for you!  It is a Christian fiction novel, and I enjoyed it as well!

Our first exposure to this novel was letting my older children read it on their own.  And then we read it as a read-aloud as part of our school unit. This year, we’re focusing heavily on history.  We’re going to start US History this fall, and a quick refresher on Medieval was needed to get some of the active wiggles out as we transition back into school.

So, if you see my kids sword fighting and talking about knights and dragons, now you know why.  They might also talk about kings and land and feuds, but do know it’s all on the up and up.

For an age range.

I’d say reading on their own from about a fourth-grade reading level and up.  But you know your child and how well they read.  This is a chapter book and not one of the beginner chapter books.  With us reading it aloud, my 18-month-old was in the room, but he was mainly playing with his trains.  The four-year-old did love the book, but she’s very advanced for four.

I also enjoyed it as an adult, and so did several of my older teenagers who are adults as well.  As long as you’re a child at heart, you’re going to love this one!

This book was very well written.  It really grabbed your attention and refused to let go.  There are several allegories for the Bible and stories from its pages within here as well.  And there are some great life lessons on self-worth and growing up.  All in all, I’d say this will stay on our shelf for the foreseeable future, and we’d love to add more like it to the shelf as well.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
