In our house, we love history. It’s our favorite subject though we often study it by reading books and not using textbooks. Recently we got to include a new book, a book on history in pictures. The Hidden Message, LLC sent us a physical copy of their historical research book, The Hidden Message of the Great Seal How Foundational Truth from the Dawn of Liberty May Rescue a Republic in Peril.
About the Book
If you like history and love seeing full-color pictures of events and historical things this is definitely the book for you. The main purpose of this book is to look into the meaning behind the enigmatic symbols of our national seal. Truly, the purpose of the book is on the message of the Seal but it also then covers the History of the Seal because they go together.
Within the book, there are 295 images! That’s quite a few. The book is only 260 pages long! I love how many images there are and how truly wonderful they are. Most are wonderfully in color as well. I really loved the timeline.
This resource seeks to educate and encourage generations of Americans to take a closer look at the founding fathers’ intent when they created the foundational documents of our nation, and remind readers of the significance of the message within America’s great seal. After reading this book it’s the hope of the author that you’ll want to continue investigating history.
Within this book, you are going to get a look at every image and word within the Great Seal and find out what they mean and why they’re important to our nation.
Our Thoughts
This is a wonderful book. There is so so much information within it. I could see using this over an entire semester to study the Great Seal. Personally, I would add this into a history or civics course for high school and see just how deep we can dig into the history of our nation and government.
I’m sure we’ve all heard of the conspiracy theories and the random out there thoughts of our leaders when they created this country. This book has a refreshing take on our leaders and tells the true story. A movie series that we actually really enjoyed comes to mind when I think of conspiracy theories. It’s nice to know the truth, though the false is definitely entertaining!
This book is very thorough. For me, I don’t think I would use it within elementary history grades. I might glean from it and introduce some concepts and ideas but not use the entire book. For high school though, I would use it as a required reading within a government course.
I love that this book brings out the Biblical connections of our Great Seal and how Christianity helped shape our nation in it’s forming.
Also, I do want to mention this is an oversized type book. While it’s the standard height it is probably 13 inches long which makes for wonderful full pages of images but not quite so wonderful for shelving.
