About the Program

The Multiplication Starter Kit from Page A Day Math is a great math help for children just learning or struggling with multiplication.  It is geared towards ages six through eight.

Included in the kit are twelve books plus some math and handwriting bonuses.  This is said to be over six months of practice for your child.  Digital downloads can be used by multiple children while the physical copies are for one child to use.  We received a physical kit for the multiplication starter kit but also received a digital download copy of it as well.

With this program, you will focus not only on math, specifically multiplication, but also handwriting.  The program has you trace the numbers to help with number formation but also with neatness.  I have to say this is the first math program I’ve seen that also wants to improve handwriting!  The math facts are multiplication facts of 0-12.

This is a super simple program as you can see by the above instructions.  It’s open and go!  My daughter wanted to be a bit different in that she didn’t color in her achievement stars until all the answers on the page were correct.  You can also use the flashcards for more practice if you’re having trouble with some of the facts.

The math bonuses to go with the kit are flashcards, assessments, and a progress tracker.  Handwriting bonus products for this kit are Adorable Adjectives and Silly Sight Words.

Each of the twelve workbooks is small and easy for a child to hold and use.  Within each workbook are 550 problems. The days are numbered within the book as well.  So, you start on the first page which says Day 1.  They progress with the five days of the week so you know exactly what they are to be doing each day.  For example, the second book has fourteen days worth of work within it.

We were also given the opportunity to download and use other products from this company for both math and handwriting.  The handwriting program we’ve been using is Scenic States Cursive Practice.

I really appreciate that this gives you the state and then at least one city within the state to copy.  For us, I hate copy work that is just nonsense.  This is lists of states and cities so that you are actually tracing things you know or can find on a map.  That’s what we did!  Once we traced each page we grabbed a map and had fun finding the city and state on there.  Not all of the cities were on our maps so we did have to do some google maps as well.

Our Thoughts on the Program

This is a cute, fun, and engaging curriculum.  My kids love how bright and colorful the curriculum is.  The little puppies who do all the teaching, they’re superheroes you know, are cute and definitely make you fall in love with them.

The math help multiplication starter kit is fun and the physical books come in a cute box.  They are colorful and easy to do.  My daughter originally did not like that she had to trace all the numbers.  She thought that she was past that.  And she might be but practice on handwriting is always a good thing.

The program works by repetition and memorization.  So the more you write the problem the more familiar you are with it and the more likely it is that it is now going to engrained in you and you’ve memorized it.  We don’t do math drilling for math facts but this is a fun way to get the same results. The flashcards are nice to have on hand for when they’re do have issues with a certain set of math facts but we did not use them much yet this go.

I love the handwriting.  The fact that they’re available in cursive is amazing to me!  I love my children learning cursive and always love curriculum programs that offer both print and cursive.  I feel it’s a lost art and we need to be more vigilant about teaching it.

We have been loving this program and recommend it to anyone who wants math or handwriting help.
