The Action Bible Anytime Devotions
Do your children do devotions? My kids do devotional books both morning and night and we’re always looking for another good book for using as anytime devotions. Recently we received a small paperback called The Action Bible Anytime Devotions from David C Cook as part of the Homeschool Review Crew.
Have your children used The Action Bible? Mine love it! They read it all the time. In fact, our copy has been so well read the binding is totally gone and we keep it together with a rubber band. My boys keep it in their room and read from it together every night. We were very excited to receive this review as it expands on their favorite Bible but is also anytime devotions instead of just the Bible stories.
About the Product
David C Cook offers lots of different products such as Bibles, books, devotionals, games, activities, toys, and more. They also offer a Foundation to help spread the Good News to those who might not receive it otherwise.
Their newest offering is The Action Bible Anytime Devotions 90 Ways to Help Kids Connect with God Anytime, Anywhere which is geared towards ages 8-12. I can personally attest kids older than twelve will love it too.
This new devotional is just shy of 200 pages long and contains 90 devotionals for you to work through with your children or for them to work through on their own. The Bible translation used is the NIV. While this isn’t our preferred translation it works well and the kids find it easy to understand.
As graphic novels go so does this lovely devotional. It’s basically the Bible and an anytime devotions as a comic book. With loads of color it stands out and captures attention.
Our Thoughts
We love both The Action Bible and this new Anytime Devotions from them as well. As soon as this new book entered my house it disappeared. I had to go in search of it to get a look at it myself and get a few quick snaps of photos for this post. My boys have decided it is their devotional just like they read our copy of The Action Bible every night. Now they do a devotional from the Anytime Devotions as well.
We found this devotional to be full of color and easy to read/understand. My boys who are using it are ages 11, 12, and 13 so at the top of the age range. They can all read it individually and don’t need much help understanding any of the words or concepts.
How We’re Using
How they are using it is the oldest at 13 reads the devotional part to the other two boys and then one of the other boys reads the Bible verse for that day.
We found that most of it is relevant to preteens today though a lot of it is more geared towards public school kids so we change the wording a little bit if needed. For instance one of the devotionals on anger centers around an encounter in the lunchroom and lunchroom tables. My kids obviously have never had to deal with eating lunch at a lunchroom but we could easily change that to being excluded when half your siblings go to do something or when you’re at the park with friends who go off in groups.
With the above paragraph, I really think this would be a great devotional to get your public school children who struggle to fit in. It gives lots of examples of how best to handle situations when we feel our sinful selves start to peek out.
Highly Recommend
Homeschool kids will love it too though! Mine are the perfect example of that. My girls have already said that as soon as the boys go through the entire thing they are going to use it and they can continue to switch it off back and forth like that.
I have a feeling this devotional is going to get just as tattered from love as our The Action Bible has. We highly recommend them both and hope you check them out. These would make great Christmas presents or Easter gifts.
