Online Coding Program

Homeschool Review Crew

Simply Coding

My son showed interest in learning to code when it was offered as part of his math program and I knew an online coding program was what we needed.  So when as part of the Homeschool Review Crew we were offered the opportunity to try Simply Coding I knew he’d love it!  We received the Coding for Kids Annual Membership.  As the name applies it allows you to have access to the program for a full year.

About the Program

This online coding program for kids is geared towards those aged 11-18 years old.  It was co-founded by two people who sensed that there was an opening and a need for this type of program.

With the membership, we received there is unlimited access to all of the courses within the program for a year for up to three students.  There are over 3000 hours of content that they have access to.

Let’s chat about the courses.  There are three levels for the courses so that anyone can find the level they are at.  Those three levels are Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Within those three levels, there are also three categories that students can choose to learn in. Those three categories are Web Design, Javascript, and Game Design.

In Web Design, students will learn HTML and CSS.  The intermediate level of this course will help students design a responsive website.

Within the Javascript category of courses, students will learn about JAVA.  Before they are done they will be able to design both games in Java and also apps for Android in Javascript.

The last category is Game Design.  Here students will learn to create multiplayer and 3D games.

Our Thoughts

I signed my 13-year-old son up for this program as he is the student in my house who is interested in learning how to code.  He had gotten a taste of what it is like through his math program and had been asking if there was a way he could get a more math-related coding session so this seemed like an even better idea!  A course just on coding!

Patrick has been using the program 4-5 days a week with only a few weeks where he has had fewer days.

As a parent, I love how easy this program is to use.  I don’t have to be standing over his shoulder helping him.  Which is good because I know nothing about coding!   Funny fact considering I have a blog.

It was very easy to log in and set up his account.  I still have a parent login that I can go in and manage our accounts, but he has his own login for using the course.  The parent account lets you manage the subscription and accounts.  It also lets you add or remove students from your account.

With his own student account, he has access to all the courses.  It also shows what he has done and where he is at with his programs.

When he does have an issue he is able to chat with his instructors online and get real-time help.  And of course, they can offer much better help than me!  The only times I have been summoned is to help him with setting up an account for something and to be shown the cool things he’s done!  He is currently still working his way through website development.

My Son’s Thoughts on the Online Coding Program

The program is fun to use.  I like to use the program.  It is a rewarding feeling to create something online that works the way I want it to.  I would like to keep using the program until I have completed all of the courses.
