Do you have multiple ages in your homeschool?  We do.  All the ages from 17 down to 1.  We love using CTCMath as our online math for all ages curriculum.  We’ve been using it for years and can’t wait to share some of its new updates with you!

Online Math for All Ages

We received a 12-month family membership from CTCMath and the Homeschool Review Crew.  One thing I love about this online math for all ages curriculum is that they are truly family-friendly.  A lot of programs say they will let you use it with all in your family but they put a cap, such as up to four children on their program.  Then you have to buy more than one family membership for your family.  Not CTCMath!!  They have it automatically set for 5 children but will add all that you need!

How many children do I actually have using the program?  Well, I have nine for now.  I’m going to be adding number 10 in soon as soon as I can because he’s now old enough and doing kindergarten and wants to do more school.  And number 11 will add in within the next year or so as she’s almost 4, plus 12 is only a year old so she doesn’t need to do online math just yet!

About the Program

CTCMath is truly a family math program.  It is math for the whole family.  All grades from kindergarten through 12th grade have math to use in this program.  It covers recognizing numbers and counting up to calculus.

This is fully online math.  They have a video for each lesson that teaches the concepts for that lesson and then questions to be answered to show that the concept is understood.  The questions are now interactive and adapt to the child.  They get harder as the understanding is shown.

There are also worksheets that can be printed off and done over topics as well.

Accounts

Each student has their own username and password to sign in.  As the parent, you have your own account as well.  Parents can assign lessons to their children or just allow them to work through each grade at their own pace.  We love that everyone gets to sign into their own account so you don’t have to remember where they are and their progress is easy to see.

In the parent account, you can sign up for emails that will give you an overview of what your child has done.  I get weekly emails that tell me how many times each student logged in, how many lessons they viewed, how many lessons they completed, and more!  I love those emails as they help me to gauge who I need to work with and who needs to get on more.

Did I mention that there are also games like speed skills and times tables for kids to do?  Talk about making math fun.

Videos

The videos teach the lessons.  It’s like being in a classroom and having a personal teacher who tells you how to do the lesson.  The voice behind the lessons belongs to Pat Murray.  He’s a homeschool dad to ten children.  He has over 30 years of experience doing this so you could say he knows what he’s doing!

My kids love listening to him teach the lessons.  I don’t know what it is about his voice but he gets you to engage and helps you understand just by his words and how he shows the problems being done.  My kids have always loved his accent as well.

The lessons are short (4-9 minutes long) and hit the main points without a lot of fluff.  Through this, he believes to be the most effective way of teaching.  And I have to agree as my children are doing a great job with this online math for all ages.

Learning Needs

If your child has learning needs do know that this program will work for them too.  I have children with reading difficulties.  This program provides a way for even children who can’t read to use it.  Everything has the ability to be read aloud.  This really helps children feel independent and able to do their school on their own.

And with the interactive and adaptive lessons, this program is actually geared to your individual child now instead of just being more geared just towards the lessons that students need in order to master a lesson or year of school.

Our Thoughts

Wow.  There are some great new updates.  If you want to know our normal thoughts just scroll down and click on the links that share our past reviews.  I don’t want to just say the same thing every year.  We love this program.  We’ve used it for years and will continue to use it for years to come.

Let’s chat mastery.

There is now a feature that when you are doing your questions it will give you a mastery award.  Once you reach the mastery level you are done answering questions.  We have found though that if the child isn’t satisfied with their grade they can do more questions to bring that up.  But the program says you’ve mastered that concept and don’t have to do anymore at that point.

The program is set up in an easy-to-use way.  It’s very easy to work through grade by grade.  It goes up and is listed in such a way that if you start in kindergarten on the first lesson and just click the next one every time you finish a lesson you’ll go straight through to calculus!

As you can see this student is working on her junior high-level coursework.  I love how it is broken up so that you know exactly what they’re working on and where it falls.  If you need extra help on a certain section this makes it really easy to find it in the worksheets.  The worksheets are part of the program and you can print them out and have your child do those for extra help.

I do have children in high school and I feel that this curriculum is on par or better than a lot of the other math we have tried for high school.  I love math.  But I’m terrible at teaching it!  This program takes that stress away from me and teaches it effortlessly.  And if they don’t get something the first time they can simply watch the video again.  It can be watched again and again.

Adding students

Okay, so above I said that I was adding in my six-year-old soon.  Well, I just did it.  Literally went to my account to grab some screenshots and realized I can now add my own students!  Before I would have to email and they would add them in for me, but I can do it now!

That was so simple and so fast!  This program really is amazing to use!  And again, there isn’t a set number of students you can’t have more than.  I love that.  I currently now have ten students and I’m sure I’ll be able to add my last two when I’m ready without having to get special permission or pay more.
