Scripture Memory Fellowship

Do you employ Bible in your school time?  How about scripture memory?  We used to do a lot of scripture memory but I’ve found that I wasn’t doing it as much in the last few years.  I’m not sure why or how we became lax in this area and I was determined to fix it!  Enter Scripture Memory Fellowship!  We received their 14:6 -The Way booklet (KJV) for a review through the Homeschool Review Crew.

About Scripture Memory Fellowship

This new product from Scripture Memory Fellowship, 14:6 -The Way, brings you through a 28-week study that includes memorizing up to 84 verses!  Wow!  And the best part is that it is for all ages as you can easily customize it for the younger or older crew.

There are more than just this volume of the 14:6 series.  This is just volume one!  The title of the series refers to John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”  What a great life verse.

Scripture Memory Fellowship offers so much more than just this series.  They have more resources than you can even imagine for helping everyone, both young and old and everyone in between as well, memorize scripture.  I have actually created my own little wishlist from their website already.

What’s inside?

Well, I’m glad you asked.

Inside this flip book, you’re going to find seven different units that contain a total of 84 verses for memory.  Each unit has 4 lessons to take 28 weeks to progress through this book.  The memory verses are color coded.  That makes it easy to see which verses are for you to memorize depending on which level you’re working at.  Green is for one verse a week, green plus orange is for two verses a week, and green plus orange plus brown is for three verses weekly.

Simple and easy to use.  All you need for each week is on that one sheet of paper(front and back).

Those units are

  • Unit 1: Who is God?
  • Unit 2: What went wrong?
  • Unit 3: What did God do?
  • Unit 4: What did Jesus do?
  • Unit 5: What is salvation?
  • Unit 6: How do we respond?
  • Unit 7: What happens next?

Our Thoughts

I love this.  It’s super simple and easy to use, plus it’s very effective.  I love that all I truly need is within the pages.  Though of course, I tend to be an overachiever and added a few things to this.

I used this with my children ages 6 through 17.  My 3-year-old was around and listened to the memory verses and did occasionally memorize one as well but I didn’t quiz her like I did the older ones.  And of course, my one-year-old was included as well.  She made the best cheering section ever!

We split them up with who was memorizing mostly based on where they academically are.  Some of my children are delayed so their age and grade level don’t correspond as they would in public school.

I have three children doing the green level.  They are ages 6, 9, and delayed 12 years.  For the next level up of orange, I have three children as well.  Those children are aged 11, delayed 14, and delayed 17 years.  On the upper level of brown, I have four children ages 14, 15, 16, and 17.  I loved being able to include everyone together in yet another area of our school.

This has been a pleasant addition to our school day.  I love that the kids can help each other practice their verses.

Oh, I almost forgot!

Some things that I added to our day with this to help.  I wrote the three verses for the week out on a piece of paper so that I could hold them up as we practiced.  For me this was helpful.  At first, I was writing them on our whiteboard but then I’d have to erase them to go on to other school and I wanted them to be more permanent.

Plus after we’re done with them I can still put them in a binder and we can refer back to them again and again.  I like the idea of going over verses we learned in weeks past just to make sure they stay fresh in our minds and we don’t forget them.

In my binder I have them sorted as the book does with green, orange, and brown tab sections.

I like that the book offers the main theme of the verses on the page as well.  Because we were all using the same book we did the questions on the back of the page each week together aloud.  If you were just using this with one student they would do those on the paper in the book.

All in all, we have enjoyed this book and I love that we are prioritizing memorizing scripture again.  I hope you get the chance to check this company out.  I know I’ll be ordering more things from them in the future.
