Homeschool Review Crew

As part of the Crew we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing for Drive Thru History® before and really enjoyed it.  This time a new product was sent to us to use.  I have really enjoyed using this and love how much my children are learning.  Drive Thru History® “Acts to Revelation” is the homeschool Bible History videos we’ve been watching.

This video series is really great for delving back into history.  Time travelling almost in a way that’s fun.  I know I will never get to visit some of these places and love travelling in this way.  Homeschool Bible history videos are the way to go!

About the Product

In the Acts to Revelation series you literally are travelling through those books of the Bible.  The series is geared towards those in sixth grade through adults.  While this is a good gauge for them, I have found that while not riveted my younger children will watch them and do come away with more information.  It’s always surprising what they pick out of the information given.

Within the DVD set are 18- 30 minute episodes.  A study guide is also provided within the DVD  case. All in all there are nine hours of video.  You can watch through it all and then go back and chat with the study guide, or maybe you’d prefer to use the guide after each episode.

In Acts to Revelation you follow Dave Stotts as he leads you through the lives of the early Christians.  Travel the Mediterranean.  All the key places are seen.  While we can’t see the people Dave Stotts does help bring them to life and the differences in modern versus history times.

How We Used

We love to watch these.  Our current way to use the videos and guide is to watch one episode.  We just watch it.  No thoughts of questions, just for enjoyment.  Next we’ll watch it again.  But this time we have first gone through the study guide so I know where to pause and ask questions.  The kids also have certain things that I’ve told them to watch for so they can answer questions later.  Doing it this way we tend to only get through one episode a week which makes this a great semester project for older kids.

I really think I get as much or more from these than my children do.  They’re so full of information and give me a different picture for Bible reading.  I’m big on wondering what if and why for situations.  These fill in a lot of the information not found in the Bible about these cities and far off places.

One way we like to use these is for additional Bible study.  My husband and I want our kids to grow up always learning and always digging into the Bible deeper.  We do this through different studies and these have become a favorite.

We previously reviewed The Gospels so you can check out that series as well.  My plan is to work through both sets each year.  That’s digging deeper into the ENTIRE New Testament each year.

In reality this is Bible, history, vocabulary, and so much more when you use the study guide.  It really pushes you to delve deeper in your understanding.  I have to say I’ve never looked at Revelation the same way before.  It’s never been a book I really dove into and got nitty gritty with.  But working through it with the dvd and guide I’ve gotten a new appreciation.

The study guide is vibrant with color and catches the eye.  Likewise the videos keep you watching just to see the history even with sound off.
